Basic tools are a necessity in any field of work. Construction workers have circular saws. Painters have primer coats. Mechanics have socket sets. And good photographers have fast, sharp and ideally inexpensive lenses. These are tools good tradesmen require.

Best lens i have ever owned

I am so happy with this lens and i am so glad that i bought it. I have been wanting to buy this lens but its expensive but finally i did. The 1.4 f makes it the best to use indoor with minimal light. The photo quality is sharp and brighter. This has just become my favorite lens for portrait :)

This lens is an absolut must for any Nikon photographer. It's sharp as hell, it's ok cheap and the DOF is really outstanding. This lens purpose best with portraits and food photography. It's also completely ideal for low-light situations. If you can't afford the 85mm 1.8, this is the way to go.

Fast; Razor sharp (specially at f/4); Amazing DOF; Lightweight and Compact (can be fitted into a pocket); Price; A MUST for any Nikon photographer

Slightly soft contrast at f/1.4 but not really noticeable; Could be bigger in size, but whatever..

Great Lens - Worst Packing

Fellow Photography enthusiatist, The lens has f/1.4 which is amazing for low light pics... Take it to a beach / late night party... you will get amazing pic quality.... But beware of the package... I got the package in worst condition... Am rating it as 3 as normal because of the worst packing...

A Classic Nikon Lens

I've been using Nikon equipment for over 50 years and the 50mm f/1.4 was my first lens. With the evolution to digital all of my lens are zooms. I bought this lens primarily for night street photography. It has proven to be everything I thought it would be and more.

Sharp Great low light performance Light weight Great price

Its a prime; doesn't zoom

..don't expect sharpness wide open unless you plan very carefully. Beautiful transition from focused area outward- this lens' specialty. A lot of chromatic aberration remains @ f/ 1.4 in high contrast areas, necessitating correction in post if you suffer from pixel-peeperism.

Excellent prime lens.

For beginners remember this is a prime lens so there is no zoom available. Have to move your feet to frame your shots. The upside to prime lens is that the image quality can't be beat.

Fast prime lens, general focal length good for lots of shooting scenarios; Superb image quality

Really can't go wrong having this lens especially on full frame camera
