When focus is spot on, the photos come out fairly sharp with awsume bokeh. I've tested three copies from my current Nikon dealer and they all had the same problem: Focusing success rate is less than 40%.

There are plenty of great, maybe better, lenses on the market. I chose the 50mm f/1.4D because for me, it is a versatile lens to an extent. It is a prime lens, therefore one cannot zoom in (for those of you not familiar or new to prime lenses.

This is a prime lens with I bought to use in low light conditions and also for the shallow depth of field so the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. A very sharp lens which is very sharp and creates great bokeh if you use it as a portrait lens or other places where bokeh is important. But you should consider buying the 50mm 1.8g which is cheaper, but has almost the same picture quality.

This lens has exceeded all my expectations. It should be in everybody's bag. The pictures obtained with this lens are razor sharp, and the bokeh is amazing. Buy this lens!

This is the only prime lens I bought so far, and I'm very glad I got it. I highly recommend this investment. The lens kit at the same focal length looks so cheap compared to this one! I think I found my lens, and I will remove it from the body only when I REALLY NEED to.

Pass on this 50mm. There are better/smarter choices.

Ett så otroligt prisvärt objektiv som man verkligen kan använda till allt möjligt. Största bländaren ger ett otroligt fint kort skärpedjup men objektivet funkar lika bra med mindre bländaröppningar. Funkar finast till porträtt men jag har själv använt det till i stort sett allt.

Det är otroligt skarpa färger för att vara såpass "standard"; mycket litet och smidigt; extremt ljusstarkt

Zoom lenses are all very well, but while they're certainly sharp enough, they lack the distortion and aberration control found in older prime lenses. More than that, though, they have much smaller maximum apertures.
