This camera was bought to replace my Canon G11. I normally used the LCD which folded out and was fully articulated. The G1X MarkII has an LCD that tilts and nearly provides the same flexibility. The rest of the camera is outstanding. I also purchased the filter adapter and the Lens Hood.

Canon G1 X Mark II Review

With a price tag around $800 you might be tempted to look past the fixed lens Canon Powershot G1 X Mark II. After all you can find an entry-level DSLR or mirrorless ILC model for less money, giving you more versatility than what you'll find with a fixed lens model.

Great option for portrait photography; Image quality is good most of the time in either RAW or JPEG; Camera has a very solid build; Many options for manual controls and customization; LCD screen tilts and offers touch capability

Extremely high starting price; Control rings are awkward to use and have some responsiveness issues; No viewfinder included (can purchase an external one separately; Camera's menus aren't optimized for touch screen LCD; Optical zoom is small at 5X; Some autofocus misses in certain photography...

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II review

Rewind to the year of the millennium and it was the PowerShot G1 that sparked the creation of Canon's G series – a camera out to appeal to photographers who desired more sophisticated control than your average point-and-shoot compact without the cumbersomeness of a heavy DSLR.

Good dynamic range and HDR options; Great image quality; Bright f/2.0 wide-angle lens; Dual control wheel around the lens; Good noise performance; 5.29fps continuous shooting for JPEGs; Dual axis electronic level; Large hand-grip for European market; Great 3inch touch screen

Short battery life; but can be extended with eco mode; Doesn't like focusing on close subjects even with macro focus enabled; Slow continuous shooting with raw

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Review

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Review - The Canon PowerShot G1 Mark II looks to build upon the performance and feature set of its predecessor at the top of the manufacturer's compact camera line-up.

Strong image quality; Solid build; Addition of handgrip welcome; Wi-fi and NFC functionality

Removal of viewfinder will disappoint some; High list price

Canon has made significant changes to the body of the G1X, but are they for the better?

Canon's PowerShot G1X Mark II camera has received a makeover like no other when you compare it to the original G1X. The body has been tweaked to accommodate a bigger lens fixture, and the overall balance of the camera has changed dramatically.

F/2.0-f/3.9 lens with 5x optical zoom; Simple to understand menu system; Very good image quality

Heavy for a compact; Balance isn't great; Button layout could be better

The PowerShot G1 X Mark II is an enthusiast compact whose fast lens and large sensor allow it to produce impressive photos in both bright and low light. Its well-built body offers three dials, and numerous controls can be customized.

Very good photo quality; Fast lens with good focal range; capable of very shallow depth-of-field; Solid build quality; with two grips to choose from; Three dial operation: two 'clicky'; one smooth; 3-inch tilting LCD flips up 180 degrees for self-portraits; Highly customizable (buttons; dials; and...

Considerable shadow noise in Raw; Abrupt highlight clipping; Program line's tendency to use wide apertures can lead to unintentional background blur; Inner lens ring can be frustratingly unresponsive; AF system can struggle in low contrast / low light situations; No manual focus or exposure...

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Review

The PowerShot G1 X Mark II is an enthusiast compact whose fast lens and large sensor allow it to produce impressive photos in both bright and low light. Its well-built body offers three dials, and numerous controls can be customized. That said, there are numerous improvements that could be made, especially in terms of dynamic range and responsiveness.

Those desiring a flexible compact camera that's even good for portrait photography.;

Photographers who demand wide dynamic range. Auto/Program mode shooters. Videographers.;

Nice with automatic lens cover (its predecessor lacked). Feels plastering work with. Hearty to hold. The display feels better than its predecessor with. 14-bit RAW files are not of the picks and is really nice to work with.
