This is the cheapest lens I own and yet it's the one I use the most! Great for portrait work and low light situations! The 1.8 aperture gives great background blur.

Having used a 18-200mm kit lens I was unprepared for the difference that F1.8 makes. Amazing value for money and an ideal "first lens" to buy after having a kit lens.
Easy to use; Compact
Build quality
I checked this lens out after an online tutorial recommended it. What a great value! A no-brainer for beginners and hobbyists. This lens takes sharp portraits. If you're a pro, you might want something fancier, but for the rest of us it's totally worth the price.
Affordable; sharp photos; nice bokeh
Might feel cheap to a pro
With a f/1.8 it is great in low light situations. This would be a great lens for anyone wanting to get into photography on a budget and looking to take some great pictures and learn on. Don't forget to order a UV filter.
Ok for it's low price, this is a great lens; Takes good clear pictures up close and just snapshots around the house; Works good for still life photos and portraits
None that I can see so far; and I am putting it through the paces here
All I can say is this lens is a steal in this price bracket. Gives very sharp pictures with my Canon 550D. Perfect for low light photography where you do not need to zoom close to your subject. Focussing is accurate and fast. Great lens at a great price.
Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh
Weak Casing
This is my go-to portrait lens for indoors and outdoors. It's never let me down, it's fast enough to get REALLY creamy Bokeh and quick auto focus. If you're looking for a great prime lens to get started with something better than your kit lens, this is your lens!
Fast Glass; Inexpensive; great Depth of field; quick AF
It feels a bit cheaply built, it's plastic housing doesn't scream quality; Also the lens hood, (ES-62), isn't included, so that's an additional $8-$15
Review: Canon 50mm f1.8II camera lens in Camera Lenses The Canon 50mm f1.8II camera lens, of "nifty fifty" as it is affectionately known is an absolute gem of a lens. It is a prime, i.e.
Used this lens yesterday for a sports shoot, couldn't believe how well it did. It's light weight, easy to handle and great photos.
