It's not what we've waited for. I don't know what's happening with Gearbox Software - along with magnificent Bordelrlands or BiA's they made such a lame games as DNF or Aliens... Buggy, crappy engine - that's the words, which describe the Aliens.

The graphics do look a bit dated, and there are better shooters out there, but I'm enjoying this game more than COD. Why? Because of the atmosphere. The gameplay is not bad (unlike Duke Nuken which I had to give up on after an hour) and the music, sound effects, story and voice acting here are a joy...

It's hard to deny it, Aliens: Colonial Marines isn't the greatest movie tie-in title ever made – even though it really should have been. It had everything in the right place during the early development scenes and splashes we got a chance to see.

I personally waited two years to get my hands on a copy of this game. As a huge fan of the Aliens franchise, there was no questions that this was a definite purchase for me. I think the game is satisfying for those who were curious to see what Gearbox had to offer in respect to a follow up to 1986's...

" Aliens: Colonial Marines " has been some six years in the making. Is this more Borderlands from Gearbox, or more Duke Nukem Forever ? I'm a pretty big fan of the Aliens films, with Aliens being my particular favourite.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is the first major video game to look like a piece of shit this year. Trying to play this game only made me realize how horrible of a company Gearbox is because they made it, or that is what some people say.

Let's not beat around the bush here, Aliens: Colonial Marines is a bad game. I can't say I'm surprised. It's been in development for over six years, passed through the hands of several developers, and was delayed a number of times. Not exactly a recipe for success in the video game business.

My motion tracker reached fever pitch as I relayed the grim news to my fellow marines. We'd already lost two squadmates to a cunning spitter who melted them into slop with molecular acid, and the slavering hunters had hounded us into a dank stairwell.

Excellent multiplayer mode; Impressively authentic level dressing; Nails atmosphere and attention to little authentic details

Unambitious; boring; stodgy campaign with nil replay value; Broken AI makes Xenomorphs pathetic and marines useless; Visually underpowered and riddled with glitches; Shockingly awful (borderline insulting) storyline; poorly delivered; Five multiplayer maps (only two in some modes) is not enough

It's difficult to think of another concept that's spawned so many spinoffs from just two good movies. Alien 3 and 4, Prometheus, the AVP series, not to mention the games that have hit the shelves in various formats, have all gestated our hopes before exploding them like a gory chest burst.

A lot of people will want to hate Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Gearbox don't do a lot to prevent that, but there are glimmers of a fine game in there. The story is hammy, but I was entertained for every minute that I played; the shooting mechanics don't do the universe any justice, but those are...
