I thought I'd take a break for a minute while I still sort out my next piece for the Building a Smart Home Series, and talk about something in my house that is both smart & practical. I've been using for the last couple months the Roomba 980 robot vacuum and I must say I think I'm impressed.

If I could rate this product with more than 5 stars I would. I bought my Roomba 980 when my maid quit without informing me (who hasn't gone through this experience!) And because I have a bad back I wasn't able to do the sweeping and mopping everyday.

Doesn't work on dark surfaces, I find this to be a huge feature miss. I can't clean my apartment because of dark carpet. No way to over ride this functionality, the unit thinks its a drop so I have to pick it up and put it in boxed areas to clean, so much for a automated robot.
