iRiver PMC-120

iRiver is making a name for itself in music players, and the iRiver PMC-120 shows that the company is off to a solid start with PMCs as well. We found it a bit less polished than the Creative entry, but that may be a function of being a bit less far along in development: We tested a...

Included kickstand for video watching; Proprietary base connector cable included

Not quite as well-developed as the Creative Zen PMC; Output quality to TV is less than desirable

The almost perfect ahead of its time MP3 Player

I got this thing on Ebay and it is awesome. Only thing needed is a radio -- for me, the average person won't care so it would be perfect for the average JOe. It is big -- not an IPOD so if you are planning on jogging or doing any physically demanding activity this is not the one for you.

Good for Windows Media Center PC owners

I've had my PMC-120 for a little over 1 month and am pretty happy with it. There are a few features Microsoft could have improved: user customizeable EQ, more than one playlist that can be created on the device, last playlist recall when returning to music (from video or TV).

i-River PMC 120

I purchased this product less than 1 year ago. The screen will most often not come on. When it does, it will go off very soon thereafter. I have never been able to watch a movie or listen to music for any length of time with this product.

iRiver PMC-120

Intro In the past few years, Korea-based iRiver has been a contender in virtually all portable media categories, including flash, microdrive, and hard drive-based MP3 players, as well as portable video players (PVPs).

Responsive processor; ergonomic; removable battery; intuitive Windows Mobile operating system; impressive integration with Windows Media Player 10.0 and Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE); built-in kickstand; decent battery life

Poor built-in speaker; pricey; no recording capability; no programmable preset buttons; no higher-capacity option; as with all PMCs, you can't create video playlists

We looked at Creative's Zen Portable Media Center last year, and it's taken this long for Microsoft's two other launch partners, Samsung and iRiver, to release their products. Since all use the same operating system to play back photos, music and video (the snappily named Microsoft Windows Mobile...
