iPhone 4 review

If the iPhone 4's screen alone isn't enough to convince you to buy an iPhone then the improved OS coupled with a faster processor certainly will. A stunning smartphone that just needs better app support.

Some will still consider Apple's iPhone the benchmark for today's smartphones, but its revised design raises issues we haven't seen in a phone of this calibre before. Those upgrading from an iPhone 3G would be wise to consider a 3GS instead.
Pros:
  • The much-discussed antenna issue
  • Design lacks the ergonomics of previous models
  • Not a substantial performance bump from 3GS
Cons:
  • Zippy 1GHz processor
  • Retina display is razor sharp
  • One of the fastest cameras we've seen in a phone

iPhone 4 Review: All the upgrades, same shortcomings

The iPhone 4 is a great device. Objectively there is simply no denying that it's a solid piece of hardware backed by good software. The screen clarity is brilliant, the touch screen response without equal and everything about the device polished.

Better Options Available

For its age, the Apple iPhone 4 is still a look. However, with the advent of new budget smartphones with quad-core CPUs and full HD display, can Apple's 8 GB model really stand a chance? It features a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 and no microSD slot to add to the 8 GB of internal storage.

iPhone 4 Review

Apple's oppressive app store policies are as much of an issue as ever (though the phone is already easy to jailbreak), as is the fact that the phone is tied to AT&T's spotty coverage and stingy data plans.
Pros:
  • Unparalleled screen quality
  • high quality camera
  • (sort of) multitasking
Cons:
  • Needs a case to function properly
  • can only run approved apps
  • stuck with AT&T

Apple iPhone 4 review

Apple has followed it's plan of keeping older iPhone models in the wake of newer releases. With the iPhone 5 on sale, you can now pick up an iPhone 4 for a much lower price. The iPhone 4 costs £329 unlocked, which compares pretty favourably to the £529 that Apple is charging for the newer iPhone 5.
Pros:
  • Gorgeous high-resolution screen
  • fast A4 processor with lots of RAM
  • easy-to-use
  • FaceTime videoconferencing
  • 5-megapixel camera takes great stills and good HD video
  • longer battery life than previous iPhones
  • support for iOS 4 features
  • including multitasking
Cons:
  • Hand placement can disrupt mobile signals
  • glass front and back could prove overly fragil
  • not able to play back HD video to external display
