World of Final Fantasy may not provide the challenge hardcore fans of the series enjoy, but it does provide a lighthearted trip down memory lane. The visuals, cameos and more continued to bring a smile to my face as I pressed forward (and turned the voice acting to Japanese).

I've been playing console RPG's since the original Final Fantasy on NES. This is an awesome throwback to the classic turn-based style of Japanese RPG. It has a lot of classic FF characters, albeit in different roles than they were in their respective games.

World of Final Fantasy

has been many things over the years; card games, an anime, movies, books, and manga. Even within the confines of the games Square Enix haven't been afraid to experiment with genres; lending the name or characters to rhythm titles like ) comes out, we should only question why it took so long.

World of Final Fantasy review: Gotta catch 'em all

If FFXV is Square Enix's answer to what Final Fantasy would look like in the real world, then World of Final Fantasy is its saccharine, saucer-eyed cousin, an exercise in pure, unadulterated fan service to make you coo with delight ahead of the main event next month.

Rip and tear!

Saturated with the blood of dozens of hapless souls, the floors squish beneath my feet. But there's plenty more work to be done. Chainsaw-wielding, rocket-powered cyborg mega-men attack from all directions as I struggle to dip and dodge between their mechanical blades.

Gripping action; An aggressive and raucous aesthetic; Inspired level design

Steep learning curve

"Really fun and cute"

If you like Pokemon, then you will definitely love this game. Fighting, collecting, training and evolving classic Final Fantasy monsters has never been more fun. With lots of throwbacks to older Final Fantasy games, I would highly recommend this title to any fan of the Final Fantasy series.

Just what you would expect

If you like JRPGs and are familiar with the older FF games then this is probably right up your alley. The game runs on rails so if you are looking for open world exploration then this is not for you. The game itself can be clocked relatively comfortably in 40 hours without rushing but I put around 80 hours into the game and am pretty close to clearing everything now. The advertising for the game made me a little worried that it would be too cutesy for me and there are definitely a couple of cringeworthy moments but there is a bit of older humour sitting in the background if you are happy to do a bit of reading. I am partial to the comment about the Copper Golem as it definitely applies to me and it was a one of a few laugh out loud moments that caught me by surprise. I have played every FF game (including FF XV) and this is a solid addition to the catalogue. It does not pretend to be something it is not and delivers a solid JRPG experience. Mixing and matching monster combinations and leveling up kept me going deep into post game and I will pick it up again after I finish FF XV (Which I believe is a less polished product). A solid 4 out of 5 stars.

World of Final Fantasy

World of Final Fantasy embraces weirdness and silliness to further itself from its more serious counterparts, while simultaneously revisiting the franchise's classic roots to create something special.

Capturing The Past

Concept: Return to a traditional RPG format while revisiting your favorite parts of Final Fantasy history Graphics: The toy-like visual style looks great, and it captures the essence of the familiar monsters Sound: I was happy to hear the returning characters' voice actors reprise their roles.
