When I play Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap , I can tell it must have been fantastic back in 1989, when it was released on the SEGA Master System as Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap .

Lizardcube's Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap isn't the first remake of the 1989 side-scroller Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (see Dragon's Curse ), but it's certainly the most striking, as players can switch between original and brand-new audiovisuals at any point during the game.

is a Nintendo Switch remake of , which originally launched on the Master System. Rather than just jazz it up a bit for the re-release, developer Lizardcube has gone the whole hog and remade every single aspect.

The Sega Master System may have lost out to the NES in terms of pure commercial success and depth of software, but it nevertheless had its fair share of amazing games - and 1989's Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap must surely rank at the top of the list.
