The Western Digital Red Pro WD6001FFWX 6TB is, by far, the most power hungry NAS drive we have ever tested here at APH Networks. If you have read my Black WD6001FZWX 6TB review last month, this should come at no surprise to you. But does it really matter?

- Would totally recommend this product.

- fast for a 7200rpm drive; - its not as loud as people claim it to be; Rather quiet actually for a NAS drive

- it runs hot - Im hitting temps up to 51c with fans turned down low in a corsair 540 case

Put it in a freenas box and it gets less than 1ms latency and over 100 MB/s read/write so couldn't be happier. I plan to get many more for ZFS.

This thing is awesome. Fast, quiet, reliable (knock on wood), good Lord, I'm never going to buy any other brand/model again. Where have you been all of my life, Mr. "WD Red Pro" Forget all of the rest, boys and girls, if platters are your thing, prepare for holy matrimony. Over, and out.

WD Red Pro 6TB HDD: I recently bought two of these, and both worked straight out the box. Their read/write speeds are great, I haven't noticed a slow down in gaming performance since I moved my Steam Library accross to this drive and kept my operating system on my SSD. The wife loves hers too.

Ive had this for days now and it still works. wow. amazing. its doing its job, so yeah - recommended...

This is the only 5TB + HD to retain center screw holes to fit legacy products. Seagate, Hitatchi, Toshiba, Deskstar etc, dropped the center screw holes and thus will not mount in legacy products. They claim it was necessary to accomodate the extra platters. Micro Center claimed they had no clue.

The first (via Amazon) was shattered on arrival, but the two from Scan were properly packed but still both failed the WD diagnostic test. Scan did a great job of RMAing the failed drives, but in the end I decided to collect one in person from a local retailer to eliminate postal damage.
