Western Digital Red WD40EFRX 4TB Hard Drive

"When it comes to buying cars," I explained to my friend, "it is actually quite similar to relationship choices we make. For example, I love BMWs. I rave about their attractive looks, desirable specifications, charming personality, and outstanding performance, but I would never buy one.

The WD Red 4TB is specifically developed with the use in NAS devices in mind, so you shouldn't use it in a desktop PC. Western Digital claims that the disks have been optimised for a usage scenario of 24 hours a day, 365 days a year thanks to the NASWare firmware.

One of two DOA; quick replacement sent

One of the two drives I ordered was dead out of the box. The other worked fine. Called B&H and then sent a new one out immediately. A bit of a hassle in that the quickest way to get it is for them to charge it as a new purchase on your credit card and then reimburse you when you send the faulty...

I haven't seen any issues with them yet. Just some warnings of the Pending Sector count in the SMART readings for one disk. (Likely due to sudden power outages) Highly recommend buying this brand.

I have four of these HDDs running and have had two of them running 24/7 for almost three years

Great drives

I have two Netgear NAS systems and they were populated with 2TB WD "Green" drives which performed well enough. Once I needed to expand the required space I decided to try the 4TB "Red" drives (the NAS systems can't handle the 6Tb ones :( ) and it was a good choice.

WD 4TB NAS Red

I bought 2 of these to extend my NAS. Plug them in, fire it up, doing a backup in 10 minutes. Lifespan??? I've only had these spinning for a couple of weeks now, but the pair of WD Red 3TB already in there have been spinning for a year with no errors, and I don't expect these to have issues either.

WD Red drives are the bomb

I'm currently using these drives in my NAS and my Server. They run beautifully, without over heating and transfers are very fast and reliable. I have an personal VM server running with these drives in a raid config! Love love love it!

Product Quantity Misrepresented:

The seller listed the product as a pack of 20, but shipped a quantity of one. That said they agreed to issue a full refund as well as a return shipping label and issued a gift certificate for the inconvenience.

These came recommended by a friend to use for a NAS System. I bought also the Qnap TVS663 (6 bay system) and they are working great in a Raid 5 scenerio. I'm tired of having o spend 1000.00 to have a drive restored. The average cheap store drive I will never buy again.

Bought in October. Died in December

I didn't use the drive as a main drive, just for backing things up. Slowly my PC started taking longer and longer to boot up. Then the drive disappeared. Windows scanned it a few times and sometimes it would come back. It only has a month return policy. AVOID.
