Never ever buy this type of drive, my two own hard drives crashed ( no response whenever I plug it in) and the same happened to my friends - buyers. although I would not blame the seller, I definitely blame producer !!!

I love this baby and i haven't even filled it up

Still going strong almost 4 years later. I love this baby and i haven't even filled it up. I back up all my computer docs and photos and it crashed last summer. My saving grace was this lovely passport and my spare harddrive keeping all my desing programs safe.

Fast and Reliable...

I was attempting to hold out until a portable drive with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt came out. Doubtful, at this point, that anyone would ever consider that possibility. But, circumstances changed and I required a large drive with a fast/common interface (USB 3.0).
Pros:
  • 2TB of storage and USB 3.0
Cons:
  • No thunderbolt compatibility..

Review: Western Digital My Passport (2TB)

The My Passport is Western Digital's mainstream line of portable hard drives. The best performer in the roundup, it's available in 500GB to 2TB...

Replacement

Picked one up today to replace a 640GB USB2.0 drive for more portable space... Ryan - 1.82GB is correct given the file system formatting on the drive, also the rounding down of 1024GB is not 1.024TB.

Highly recommended but be aware that it's not formatted for Mac and cant be used for Xbox save games

This hard drive is quite big for what it is, just a small laptop hard drive in a case but it is the latest hard drive, and there is not a bigger capacity portable USB powered hard drive out there, so it's in a market size of one really.

Excellent product, but with a small issue

I recently had a 1TB Caviar Black HD start to fail in my PC (after 6 years of heavy 24/7/365 use). I was able to clone it to a new drive, but the close call finally got me to do something about backup. I got the 2TB Passport.

Good value

I was disappointed that I had to format for the Apple Macbook and go online to find how do this as you couldn't access the instructions on the drive. This should be made clearer at the beginning.
Pros:
  • Features As Expected
  • Quick Deivery
Cons:
  • Bulky
  • Had To Format For Macbook
  • Instructions Not Easy

No, it's not a proprietary cable!

My two terabyte passport was 99 with free shipping on a promo code. I strongly suggest that you take advantage of NewEgg's excellent price alert policy.
Pros:
  • This is a follow up to my 5-star review dated 10/27/2013
  • Several reviews falsely state that the 2 terabyte Passport uses a proprietary cable that will cost a fortune to replace
  • It's actually an industry standard micro-USB 3.0 cable.
Cons:
  • None yet
