2TB Western Digital My Passport Portable Hard Drive Review
Last week WD announced the latest generation of their popular My Passport portable hard drives. The newly redesigned enclosures surround a 2.5" 15mm Western Digital hard drive that uses four platters to offer capacities up to 2TB, making it the highest capacity drive available in this form factor.
Pros:
- Massive 2TB of storage from a single 2.5-inch hard drive
- USB 3.0 interface for transfer speeds averaging 110MB/s
- Helpful and intuitive supplied software
Cons:
- Metal-alloy case would have been preferred

Great, but only lasted a year
I was loving this. It has a backup function which only copies new or updated files. It also stores 'iterations' of files as you are working on them, however these take up disc space and it's worth regularly removing them. I would like to see this as an automated feature.

Western Digital My Passport 2 TB Review
S SDs packed in 2.5-inch USB 3.0 casings are the fastest portable storage devices. But that's only for a handful of those who prefer speed over capacity. To the rest, size matters most! Here, hard drives come into the picture because they offer a strikingly low price-per-GB.

I bought this hard drive about 2 months ago after i realised my 640gb was getting pritty full so i got a good deal for it on ebay, just 70 pound so i was happy. when you first buy it and get it out of the packaging it is really small for the size, you get all the manuels, cds ect but being me i just...
Pros:
- great amount of size
- looks good
- reliable
Cons:
- goes in "sleep mode" like every 3 mins

Worst thing EVER!!!
This is the 3rd hard drive from WD i have had REPLACED...these things quit like no tomorrow. As a university student, many of my much needed files have gone caput bc these things have no clue how to work. Every single one has failed. I will never buy another one again.

Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1TB
I am so disgusted by this drive. I've used it a total of FOUR TIMES to back up data from my laptop. A few days ago, I plugged it in to do my 3-month HD backup, and it rendered my Vista OS completely unresponsive.
Pros:
- NOTHING...okay
- portable? Paper weight?
Cons:
- Stopped working altogether after FOUR USES! Total crap
- WD seems to have no idea how to fix an apparent inherent flaw in this drive

WD My Passport Essential SE Review
The WD My Passport has always been very stylish – yet surprisingly small – devices and the all new refreshed version of the Essential model is no exception. While it does come in many color options, mine was the silver and white version. To be blunt, this color scheme looks like a million bucks.

WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB Review
The main feature of the drive apart from it being a USB 3.0 drive lies in its utility – WD SmartWare. The drive comes bundled with this utility and it allows you to password protect your data and backup important files.
Pros:
- Compact form factor
- WD SmartWare utility
Cons:
- Slow performer
