WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB Review
The main feature of the drive apart from it being a USB 3.0 drive lies in its utility – WD SmartWare. The drive comes bundled with this utility and it allows you to password protect your data and backup important files.
Pros:
- Compact form factor
- WD SmartWare utility
Cons:
- Slow performer

Compact but usb slow for size
The size serves my purpose very well: monthly backup and bank SD box storage. Firewire 800 would be desirable if used on a regular basis. The usb is very slow for large disk, as this is, backup. Also, on a long run it gets hot. I put an ice pack on top to keep it cooler.
Pros:
- Easy To Install
- Highly Compatible
- Quiet
Cons:
- Runs Hot
- Slow

Great, but only lasted a year
I was loving this. It has a backup function which only copies new or updated files. It also stores 'iterations' of files as you are working on them, however these take up disc space and it's worth regularly removing them. I would like to see this as an automated feature.

quiet but very slow
I purchased this drive to store my home videos, music and everything. I did a test and transferred 50GB data, it took almost AN HOUR! I was hoping 3Gb/second would let me transfer data with much less time than that. The drive its self is very light weight and quite and sleek design.
Pros:
- Quiet
- Easy to Use
- Design
Cons:
- slow speed

My Passport Studio WDBAAE
Western Digital designed and preformats the My Passport Studio for use with Macs; however, it works well as a portable external storage solution for Windows and OS X, as long as USB 2.0 is your connection of choice.
Cons:
- The My Passport Studio doesn't support USB 3.0 and its FireWire performance could be faster
- Its backup software doesn't allow for much customization, and its cost per gigabyte is relatively high

WD My Passport Edge for Mac
Western Digital offers external desktop drives with Thunderbolt connectors but we're still waiting for Thunderbolt to come to its portable drives. For now you'll have to be satisfied with USB 3.0, which isn't available on all Macs.

Western Digital My Passport 500GB review
Not as sleek as the new Edge series the My Passport (formerly known as My Passport Essential) isn't without considerable appeal. Sure it's a little chunkier than the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive and the design's quite bland but it's what inside that counts right?
Pros:
- Excellent software
Cons:
- Crummy performance

Western Digital's My Passport Essential SE is currently the only portable external hard drive to boast a whopping 1TB of storage space. Despite this, it is one of the smallest hard drives around and is quite speedy, too.

WD My Passport Studio 640GB review
Passport is the rather apt name chosen by Western Digital for its range of portable hard drives. Not much bigger than the 2.5in notebook drives they contain, these pocket-sized storage devices are now more pocketable than ever, thanks to their extra-rounded corners – not to mention attractive...
Pros:
- Large capacity
- Personalised e-label display
- Three connection options: FireWire 400/800 and USB 2.0
- Straightforward software for labelling
- locking and backup
- 256-bit hardware encryption
Cons:
- Only one FireWire port – no daisy-chaining
- No carry case in the box
