Western Digital My Passport Pro: A hefty portable RAID
What's striking about Western Digital's My Passport Pro portable hard drive is its size and weight. The 4TB version I tested weighs 1.58 pounds, which is light when compared to your average five-pound clay brick.

Not for viewing picture files.
This Western Digital One terabyte USB hard drive is extremely durable yet unbelievably quiet, and its read/write speed is excellent. It is compact, about the size of a wallet, is handsomely designed, and so affordable that I bought two of them.

I thought it could not have been my system as i had since upgraded my laptop for a newer model. Therefore i was very annoyed and sceptical to use them again. I took it back to the store once again and luckily they agreed to give me a different brand……(a 500GB harddrive for 25€ cheaper) therefore i...

Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1TB
I am so disgusted by this drive. I've used it a total of FOUR TIMES to back up data from my laptop. A few days ago, I plugged it in to do my 3-month HD backup, and it rendered my Vista OS completely unresponsive.
Pros:
- NOTHING...okay
- portable? Paper weight?
Cons:
- Stopped working altogether after FOUR USES! Total crap
- WD seems to have no idea how to fix an apparent inherent flaw in this drive

Worst thing EVER!!!
This is the 3rd hard drive from WD i have had REPLACED...these things quit like no tomorrow. As a university student, many of my much needed files have gone caput bc these things have no clue how to work. Every single one has failed. I will never buy another one again.

New USB connector HORRIBLE
The new smaller USB connector (smaller than the standard mini USB on the 360GB) on the Passport is horrible. A slight touch and it loses connection, causing the dreaded "device removed unexpectedly" warning. This happened 3 times today in my first us...

Beware if you have a desktop
I bought this following a good review of the 500GB model. When I received it, the first thing I noticed was just how short the cable was. If you have a desktop, the cable is not long enough to reach the usb ports at the back of either a Dell or Levono.

WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB
What good is an external drive for backups if there isn't any good backup software to go along with it? Western Digital's My Passport Essential SE comes with a bevy of utilities to help users more easily protect their important files, photos, and videos.
Pros:
- Well-designed software
- Easy to back up and restore files
- Includes diagnostic tools
Cons:
- Poor transfer times
- Plastic housing feels flimsy
- Relatively pricey
