Big let down
I bought this product a couple days ago. I tried to back up files on it tonight and found the product to be in read only mode. I tried using the unlocking program with it- and it said it was for different operating system or the drive was locked. DUH! I am returning the product in the morning.

Website is irresponsibly designed.
This HDD stopped working in Dec-Jan 2013... I'd barely used it. Once a month I'd attach it to my PC and transfer some excess data into it just to clear some space. When it stopped working I was very disappointed..

Great space saver
I have had my external hard drive for 3 year now and its still kicking. The usb transfer cord went out on me after two years but it was easy and cheap to get a replacement for it.

Great improvement over older version/model
Great - has a metal cradle which attaches it to the back of the TV out of the way Also has no addition power adaptor (like in the older model) as it gets its power from the TVs USB powered slot - therefore it has just the 1 cable to connect into the tv

Lasted seven and a half years
I bought this drive back in 2011 and it lasted until a couple of weeks ago. I have used it in various ways primarily for backups, using Windows backup for awhile to do image backups, and then moving to Crashplan local until they ended their free home license.

WD MyBook
All-in-all it does what it's supposed to do, hasn't failed on me yet, and it's always a good idea to keep your important data backed up. Plus now it's way cheaper than it was a year ago. I give this product 4 eggs.
Pros:
- Configured as a RAID right out of the box
- Recognized on both Apple MAc and Windows OS platforms
- Have had it for over a year now and hasn't given me any problems to date
- Works great as a backup drive for my music, movies, photos
Cons:
- No eSATA or firewire 400/800 connections for faster data transfers
- The USB connection on the back is poorly made
- The UBS cable falls out a lot so I had to use a plastic cable zip tie to secure it to the back of the drive
- Also you cannot use any other drive other than WD Green Drives.

Slow
Wanted to use this for streaming video, music and pictures, which it does faultlesly, but geting the files onto the drive is soooo sloooow! Even over a 1gbit wired network. I have a 4 year old other make that is almost instant when you access your files.
Pros:
- Media streaming
- Capacous
- Software Easy To Setup
Cons:
- Slow
- May Need Help With Shares
- Clumsy Interface

Avoid Buying It!
There are many shortcomings to this hard disk. Firstly, the hard disk is quite heavy which makes it difficult to carry around. Secondly, the transfer rate is not that great. Thirdly, it requires an external adapter to operate. It doesn't have lot to offer for the high demanders.

WD My Book 4TB USB 3.0 External Desktop HDD , Auto Backup , Password Protection , compatibility with Windows and Mac Operating System
So far so good, if it is as reliable as other WD drives we have in service, will be great
