Western Digital My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 Black
3 TB! Excellent price for a 3 TB drive. Not that rapid. Slow spin up time if it's been idle. I got two of these, and carry them about often simply because I rotate them to another place for offsite backups. No reliability concerns but.USB 3.

Fast, very quiet and flexible.
I have a Mac Mini running iTunes that accesses films stored on this NAS. This in turn is available to my Apple TV. The whole arrangement works very well indeed.

I also use the NAS to store all my photos and other assorted data.
Pros:
- Fast
- Quiet
- Simple setup
Cons:
- None

Western Digital My Book Essential 4TB Review
Western Digital has taken a "more is better" approach with its latest iteration of the WD My Book Essential HDD. The top model features a single 4TB drive and a USB3.0 interface to help speed up the process of filling it up.
Pros:
- Good value
- Includes backup software for Windows users
- Top availalable capacity for single-drive externals
Cons:
- Mac users and those PC users who want more performance to go along with raw disk size my want to consider the My Book Studio series

Build looks sturdy and there is sufficient space for cooling air flow. The disk powers up quickly. It comes bundled with useful security and backup software from WD. I have set the disk to power off after 20 minutes of disuse to save power and elongate its life.

Western Digital My Book (4TB)
The Western Digital My Book (4TB) ($209.99 list) desktop-class external hard drive gives the photo, music, or video collector a place to keep a whole lot of files. It's basic, utilitarian storage that will get the job done, and sometimes that's all you need.

First time using a WD hard drive, currently doing brilliantly. Price is very good on Play-Asia.

Nice Hard Drive
Thought I was getting a great deal of a terabyte of storage for less than $90.00 until I bought locally a 2 terabyte drive for $79.00 at Fry's electronics.

Excellent Hard Drive
Initially when I tried to install this HD to my computer it kept asking me for the program disc which was never included in the box I started to somewhat "freak out". But I soon found out that in the back of the HD there is an "ON" button (which I didn't notice) and the HD installed on its own.

Slow
Wanted to use this for streaming video, music and pictures, which it does faultlesly, but geting the files onto the drive is soooo sloooow! Even over a 1gbit wired network. I have a 4 year old other make that is almost instant when you access your files.
Pros:
- Media streaming
- Capacous
- Software Easy To Setup
Cons:
- Slow
- May Need Help With Shares
- Clumsy Interface

This a great product. very fast and just love it. the size is so big you'll never run out of space. I was able to d/l everything I had and only use 600 mb great I have a lot of space left and will be using this for many years without worrying about running out of space.
