cable and jack problems
There is major problems with the USB cable and jack. It was very temperamental from the get-go and, after a few months, completely stopped working.

Just what I'd expect
eSATA would be nice instead USB, or perhaps both. Thinking I may remove the drive from the enclosure, and stick it in another enclosure.
Pros:
- Small, lightweight, and looks fine sitting on your desk
- I bought one and loaded it up with approximately 900gb of random content over the first week
- No issues yet
Cons:
- The WD software is annoying
- I don't use it, and don't plan to
- You cannot actually remove it from the drive itself
- I suspect it's not on the drive itself, but flashed to a board just before the drive
- Have not confirmed this yet

I bought this for providing storage for a Freeview DishTV digital receiver via USB. It came with back up software which was surplus to my requirements. The Receiver reformatted it and recognized the drive without a hitch. All video seems to be stored and replayed without any problems.

An Excellent Storage Device That Holds Loads Of Data
Although my laptop has a fair amount of hard disk space, I prefer to store my music, movies & photos on external drives and up until recently I've got by on a couple of Western Digital Passports with 360gb each.

Hardware good, software confusing
WD's software for this big 2TB drive can get in the way of Apple's excellent Time Machine backup program, unless you find your way around it-without instructions to that effect. Otherwise, it seems to work OK, and the price is right for May, 2011.

The hard drive is of good quality, though the included software is absolutely trash. An experienced user would fmt the hd as soon as they get it, but I suggest non-experienced users to do so as well.
Pros:
- Sturdy external hard drive
Cons:
- software that comes with it is horrible and confuses "newbs

Perfect for USB 2.0 only
This hard drive sometimes tends to not be recognised by my Win 7 64 bit when I plug it in to USB 3.0. Even though you succeed in it you it may disappear afterwards and it is not easy to get it back. Restart of system doesn't help. whereas there are no issues so far with USB 2.0.

Western Digital My Book (4TB)
The Western Digital My Book (4TB) ($209.99 list) desktop-class external hard drive gives the photo, music, or video collector a place to keep a whole lot of files. It's basic, utilitarian storage that will get the job done, and sometimes that's all you need.
