Twisted Metal Review

If you're up for a challenge and some old-school fun, then Twisted Metal is the game for you.

Great variety of cars and power-ups; B-movie cut scenes are especially well done.

Twitchy controls in places; Car and environment physics are pretty much non-existent; Unbalanced AI

Twisted Metal Review

Before PlayStation was a household name, I can remember the original system launch; walking into a store shortly after the PSOne hit shelves and seeing a game with a demented clown...

+ Fast-paced action; + Online is a blast; + Weapons are fun to use; + Excellent arenas

Online has growing pains; Only three main characters

Twisted Metal Review (PS3)

Spinning tires, or spinning in its grave? Twisted Metal is a hard review to write because there is just so much nostalgia here. This game reminds me of those late nights with friends, a case of Mountain Dew, and my Playstation so much that my bias shows through.

Great game play; Online MP is outstanding

The story lacks; Brings nothing new to the table

While it's not without its flaws, Twisted Metal manages to recapture that feeling the original games inspired way back during the PS1's early life. It is a perfectly-preserved slice of the late '90s that manages to appeal to established fans of the franchise, while still making the necessary changes...

Well-rounded selection of vehicles; plenty of game modes and content; fantastic handling and sense of control; robust and addictive multiplayer

Opponent AI is cheap; online matchmaking is wonky

PS3 Review – Twisted Metal

You better bolt your door and shut your windows because the Twisted Metal competition is coming to your town. It's been a long time since gamers were able to experience all the vehicular mayhem that the Twisted Metal series has to offer, but is the franchise still true to its roots

+ Online multiplayer is a blast; + Just the re-invigoration the franchise needed

Review: Twisted Metal (2012)

It's been 10 years since we last laid hands on a Twisted Metal title. Now Playstation's longest running franchise is finally back, this time on the PS3.

Creepy live action cutscenes; Massive environments; Cool vehicles; Bonus game Twisted Metal: Black included

Pinball physics; Limited storyline

We All Scream For ISKREEM

No, it isn't as iconic as Twisted Metal 2 , but it still serves up a healthy dose of visceral fun that is only slightly diminished by dubious design decisions. It's certainly the benchmark for vehicular combat this generation.

Will Sony strangle potential wunderkind Twisted Metal in the crib

There is no game quite like Twisted Metal. Except, of course, for games already called Twisted Metal. This superfast, superdeep, superskill-based series has been dormant for ten years for a reason: if people want to play deathmatches, they tend to pick up a shooter in which dudes run around shooting...

Twisted Metal (PS3) - Review

As the gaming industry continues to move toward more story driven experiences, it's easy to forget that some games should be made just to be played. Eat Sleep Play's new Twisted Metal is exactly that sort of game.

Once upon a time, a man named Calypso regularly held a tournament. It was a grisly contest of vehicular carnage in which entire cities were razed as the competitors destroyed everyone and everything around them in their mad quest for victory. But for many years now, the screams have gone silent.

Vast; complex; largely destructible environments; Diverse assortment of weapons calls for on-the-fly tactical smarts; Responsive controls let you react to constantly evolving dangers; Campaign has great cutscenes and memorable boss battles; Online competition is fast and thrilling

Odd narrative disconnect between vehicles and drivers; Online connectivity issues and other quirks
