The Evil Within is a new survival horror game, an experience which Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration.

Shinji Mikami has yet to make a poor game, and The Evil Within does not blemish his record. But neither does the game enchant and disrupt in the way that Vanquish and the others managed. This is Mikami revisiting his past glories and, as such, it's both a delight and a disappointment.

Almost twenty years ago, Resident Evil released on the PlayStation and quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed horror games of all time. That franchise has become so popular that sometimes it's easy to overlook the mastermind behind the great series of games.

The Evil Within is not a game that relies on cheap jump scares. It's driven by a slow, sustained, and deeply pervasive sense of dread that sets your mind racing at every crunch of glass beneath your feet and every distant groan from an unseen enemy.

There are very few games that I anticipate with every fiber of my being and The Evil Within happens to be one of them. Since it was first teased in those two crappy vines, I kept a very close eye on this game.
