Tascam DR-05 Handheld Portable Digital Recorder Review

4.5
Pros: Recording Made Simple, Goes Where You Do, Variety of Features, Superb Sound, Value For Your Buck
Cons: Trial By Error
Verdict: Often times a good video can become a bad one because of bad sound, but you can solve a lot of those sound problems with a good digital recorder. The Tascam DR-05 is easy to take along for those impromptu web videos or when you are doing a review or interview and the sound quality of recordings does...

Tascam DR-05

Pros: Easy to use, Recordings transfer to computer easily, Excellent sound for the price
Cons: Speakers are low quality, A little too big to fit in your pocket, Three-month labor warranty
Verdict: Great in certain situations. While the audio quality of the Tascam DR-05 is rated highly for general use, reviews indicate that the digital voice recorder might not be the best choice for certain applications.

Dead after 3 months

5.0
Verdict: Used maybe 3 times a month for the last 3 months. Turned it on this morning and it was fine. Went to actually record and it no longer turns on. Changed the batteries and SD card with no luck. It's lived in a soft case and been treated well. What a pile of garbage!!

WOW!

5.0
Verdict: I took this out to record a gospel quartet that I really like and just with using the internal mics the sound was amazing. I also really like the dual recording mode. The main recording clipped a few times when the bass singer got way down there but the second recording at the reduced level was spot...

I'll never buy a Tascam again!

3.0
Verdict: Very hard to set up, forgets the date and time when I change the batteries. Used it 3 times in a year now it stops recording automatically after 3 to 5 seconds! (yes I tried re-booting and changing cards)

Better than my last Tascam...and about the same price or less

5.0
Verdict: I think this thing works well. Once you read and understand what is going on, it is very, very easy to use. I lost my old Tascam, which I think was supposed to be a model better than this, but Tascam must have gotten a better speaker input (this thing also has ability to increase or decrease...

4.0
Verdict: I use this recorder to tape live concerts mostly in small venues. There's a large (but shrinking, it seems) hobby community of music nerds who share recordings online and via mail; think Deadheads and more sophisticated.

Verdict: Really good sound quality for the price, simple to use - works well for simple recording, not many extra features but that's why its priced so competitively, it does exactly what I wanted it for.

Verdict: So far it does what I need but as I'm a novice I'm struggling with the 'get started' manual and have had to look online for more detailed explanations. Nevertheless, good value for money.

Review tascam DR-O5

5.0
Verdict: Live recording made of 22 man brass orchestra. A very difficult thing to record due to the extreme dynamics of sifts to loud's. I was somewhat apprehensive regarding what to expect ... Set the record level and engaged the peak protection. Recorded using a wav file ...

First digital recorder

5.0
Verdict: I had worked in the commercial audiovisual field for over 30 years and Tascam was always a quality product and I would have to say it remains so. Now that I sit on local government boards in a retirement community I find it convenient to use this unit.

"Quality. Easy to use. Sound that will you!"

4.5
Verdict: I don't have a lot to compare to except for an old Sony digital voice recorder. I can say, however, that the sound of this DR-05 is an order of magnitude, maybe two orders of magnitude better. I am using this for digital sampling for music.
