Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Lens Review – 015
Ask any professional photographer what goes into the making of a great image and you may be surprised by their reply. Things like composition, framing, good technique, great light, bold colour and strong subject matter are all important.
Pros:
- Cons
- Not as solid as the top pro models, screw driven auto-focus with rotating front focus ring

Don't want to dump a grand on Nikon's 2.8zoom... Tamron has a great alternative
The Tamron 28-75 XR AF is one of my favorite lenses. It's hard to beat the quality, speed and price
Pros:
- Inexpensive
- 2.8 aperature
- quick focus
- zoom lock
- a good product overall
Cons:
- Body could be constructed tougher
- could be sharper
- sunshield is made of really weak plastic

Nikon DSLR owners beware
This is a fast lense for sure. However, it has MAJOR focusing problems even under moderate lighting. I tried mounting it on my D5100 as well as my older D70s. Even the cheap kit lense does a marvelous job of focusing as compared to this one.

Great lens for this price
I was pretty happy with this lens. For $500 it is just super duper great quality of pictures, especially sharp... Highly recommend everyone, worth each cent.

High Quality Standard Zoom Lens
This is a sharp, small and lightweight high quality zoom lens that does well in low light situations. It gives better control of ghosting and the focus speed is good. I have been extremely satisfied with its performance.
Pros:
- Small and lightweight
Cons:
- N/A

Lens shown in Nikon mount The Tamron SP AF28-75/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro is a fast, general purpose lens for both digital and film cameras. On a film camera the 28-70mm range covers a lot of applications from landscapes and photojournalism to travel and environmental portraits.

Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) (Nikon) - Review / Lab Test Report
The Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR (forgive me for using a shorter variant of the name ...) proved to be a very good lens in the lab. The resolution figures are among the highest tested among the standard zoom lenses - the center resolution is generally excellent and the borders follow closely on...

This is a great value lens. The image quality is outstanding for a lens in this price range. There are some things that could be better about it, but for the price in this focal range, and considering it's a 2.8 lens, it's impossible to beat.
Pros:
- Very sharp
- inexpensive
- 2.8 through entire focal range
- excellent image quality
Cons:
- Not rugged
- Mediocre focusing speed
- Sometimes hunts in low light

This lens is one of my all time favorites. It's fairly light, tack sharp, and has a decent zoom range. The main problem is with mountaineering you tend to want either wide angle or telephoto, which this lens is neither. So, you end up taking multiple lenses with you on a trip.

Great price for a 2.8 constant aperture. Lightweight. Autofocus is inconsistent and a touch slower than I hoped for. Range is not wide enough for a "walkaround lens" on a 1.6 crop camera. I have seen some excellent images come from this lens on other user's galleries.
Pros:
- f/2.8
Cons:
- Autofocus inconsistent
- Lens filter size is unique to Tamron
- therefore my other lenses require other filters
