Excellent long macro!
I decided on this Tamron 180mm macro because of reviews and past experience with Tamron products. Money well spent. It's a quality lens that is extremely sharp and contrasty. This will do nicely until I find the rare Minolta Maxxum 200 f4 macro.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Easily Interchangeable
- Nice Bokeh
- Rugged
- Strong Construction
- Very Sharp
Cons:
- Slow Focus

- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Nice Bokeh
- Rugged

Cons:
- Slow Focus

Extra distance was invaluable
I combined this superb lens with a new Sony A65 (also reviewed recently) at a recent shoot. The subject was 'Harvest Mice' and I was 'shooting' the delightful little devils in company with two other enthusiasts in shoot leader's garden shed.

Love it...!
Been wanting this lens for years, very glad I finally bought one. Great images, super sharp. Auto focus IS slow and it hunts most of the time but I knew this about this lens before buying. It is a Macro after all and this is kind of normal for this kind of lens.

Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro Review
The Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro is a well-designed lens that's impresses on both APS-C and full-frame bodies

I don't think it's fair to compare this lenses AF with other telephoto lenses - after all, it focuses all the way from infinity to 1:1, and that takes some time! Agreed, it focuses slowly, but it does so relatively quiet (no USM or HSM here, sadly) and when it stops, it usually is in focus even on...
Pros:
- Sharp
- relatively light
- good working distance (it's a 180mm after all)
- good colours and contrast
- filter control
- good focus ring (I like the clutch mechanism)
- accurate AF
- easy to MF
Cons:
- Hood is huge! Lens doesn't feel very solid

Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro Review
In order to capture true macro photographs, where the image is the same size as the original object, the lens has to be used at close range. This can cause problems, however, such as when the lens casts its own shadow over the subject.

My Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Lens
I have captured some really great images with this lens. I believe I will have it for a very long time. The Macros come out so beautiful. The only thing I don't like when doing Macros in that at very close range, the Macros tend to blur a bit. Other than that I love this lens.

- Fantastic control of Colour Aberrations
- FEC is a nice touch

- Good value for money
Cons:
- Resolution at f/3.5
- Slow auto focus

Wow - what a lense!
Before I purchased this lens, I was toying with the idea that perhaps I could continue simply to use my 80-200mm lens with extension tubes for my macro photography. However, I decided to go for it and buy the lens.

I am so glad I did.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Durable
- Easily Interchangeable
- Lightweight
- Sharp Focus
- Strong Construction
