Perfect match for Canon 400d SLR
BACKGROUND I had been looking to replace the so-so kit lens on my Canon 400d and agonised over the possible options for several weeks. I wanted a lens to broadly replace the kit lens range of 18-55mm - with a good wide angle and some telephoto zoom, but not too much of a range so that optical...
Pros:
- Image sharpness
- constant f2 .
Cons:
- Some distortion at widest setting
- motor noise

I wanted to provide some detail about my experiences with this new lens, and it's performance in my day to day photography work. If you had asked me 15 years ago, I would have been very hard pressed to recommend a Tamron Lens, but with some work and time, they have managed to sell me on this...
Pros:
- Solid Construction: OK, we hear a lot about "plastic" feel and less than rugged construction
- I think we will have to get used to this construction method as it will be the norm going forward.
Cons:
- Auto Focus Lock: OK here is where I will complain about Tamron's way of doing things
- On other AF lenses that I have from Nikon, you can turn the Auto-Focus Ring, while the lens is set to Auto and it freely turns without causing any potential damage to the lens.

Wedding Photographer
This lens offered me the best bang for the buck as I am starting to do Weddings and events. I need a fast lens for low light venues and this lens does a great job. I have it paired with a Canon 7D and it has given me some clean crisp shots.

OK, but not great.
I wanted a general purpose zoom lens for my Canon Eos XSi and after reading extensive reviews of various lenses I decided to try the Tamron to save a little money over the equivalent Canon lens.
Pros:
- Easily Interchangeable
Cons:
- Blurry Focus

Most of the alphabet seems to feature at some point in the Tamron's full title, but these abbreviations promise plenty of features. SP signifies Super-Performance, based on three XR (Extra-Refractive) elements, an LD (Low-Dispersion) element and two Aspherical elements in its construction.

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di II VC
The kit lenses you get with digital SLRs aren't generally that good. They might be sharp enough, but their specifications and handling leave something to be desired. The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 could be the answer, offering a significant step up in features, versatility and, perhaps, performance.
