Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro VC USD Lens Review

As you might expect from a 90mm macro lens from Tamron, the optical performance of this lens is excellent. The lens delivers superb sharpness and contrast plus distortion, chromatic aberrations and falloff are kept in check also.

Excellent sharpness throughout the range in the centre; Handy Vibration Compensation system; Good build quality; Moisture resistant construction; Low distortion and CAs

Suggested retail price is almost twice that of equivalent lenses from rivals

Tamron SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD

The Tamron SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD is an excellent update of Tamron's very popular 90mm lens, with the new optical construction offering great image quality and lovely smooth bokeh, and the built-in image stabilisation increasing its versatility to include hand-held as well as...

The 90mm f/2.8 Di USD VC updates Tamron's ‘classic' 90mm macro, and comes bursting with new features. It comes in Nikon, Canon and Sony mounts and fits APS-C and full-frame D-SLRs, although the Sony version doesn't feature Vibration Compensation (VC) due to the built-in IS in Sony bodies.

Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD SP

I purchased this lens to use with my Sony A57 (16.1 megapixel APS-C, 1.5x crop). I have three other Tamron SP lenses (A16, A005 and B01) and chose them because I felt their image quality was as good, maybe even better than the comparable Sony or Sigma lenses.

solid build, good fit & finish, very sharp at f/2.8-f/3.1 and tack sharp at f/3.5-f/16, no lateral chromatic aberration, no distortion, IF, quiet af, no front/back focus issues, smooth focus ring, moisture resistant, 6 yr warranty

a-mount connector a bit loose; sharpness declines after f/16; minor bokeh fringing from f/2.8-f/7.1; minor vignetting from f/2.8-f/3.5; lens flair; Sony version lacks VC; AF slower than expected; no case/pouch

Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD (F004) Lens

Tamron's 90mm macro lenses have been held in high regard by photographers for many years and the company has updated them regularly, the most recent in September 2012. While the new lens has been designed primarily for 'full frame' DSLRs, as a 'Di' lens it is also usable on cameras with APS-C sized...

Excellent image quality

Bought this to replace a broken older model Tamron 90mm macro. Very impressed with this lens. Very sharp images, of which mostly were taken hand held. Quick, quiet focusing. Nice bokeh. Build feels solid. Haven't noticed any chromatic aberration or distortion, although not an expert on that stuff.

Easy to use; Build quality

Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Review

As ‘s has a focal length of 90mm rather than 100mm or 105mm, the lens has to be slightly closer than would otherwise be the case to record a true macro ( ) image. That said, Tamron also offers a 180mm macro for times where a greater camera-to-subject distance is more appropriate.

Great value for money

Got this lens recently and took it out for a spin. It completes my lens armory perfectly. A terrific picture lens and it also gets me in close for those abstract natural landscape kinds that I am so fond of. It is light yet seems to be well made.

build quality; great bokeh and accurate auto focus

nothing yet

Finally, a Better Alternative to the Canon Macro

After reading reviews I finally purchased this lens, and I am super happy that I did. This lens provides quite a bit of versatility being much like a really good 90mm prime lens (for portraiture, et al) while at the same time being a great macro lens with 1:1 magnification.
