Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SP Di VC USD (EOS) - APS-C Format Review / Lab Test

The Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD performed fairly well in our full format test but it is a more desirable lens on an APS-C DSLR. The resolution figures are very high in the scope and that's, at least mostly, across the image frame.

Great lens, good aberration and distortion control

Tl;dr: low aberration is a boon, distortion is well controlled, Tamron priced it well The full review: Tamron made this lens to fit well in an area that is kind of empty: mid-range telephoto lenses under $1k, and the features that it offers is excellent.

REVIEW: Tamron SP70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at Tamron's first lens to include both an Ultrasonic focusing motor and Vibration Compensation.

Very good optical performance; Good build quality; Ultrasonic drive; Effective vibration compensation system

Focusing a little slower than other silent focusing systems I've used

Lens Test: Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DIVC USD AF

Tailor-made for wildlife and sports shooters, this third-generation 70–300mm full-frame telezoom in Tamron's SP line adds Vibration Compensation (VC) plus two innovations: an Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) focusing motor for near-silent AF, and an element of what Tamron calls XLD glass, a relatively...

Tamron's SP AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD; Ultrasonic Silent Drive-Quiet, Fast Autofocusing

For the first time, Tamron has incorporated an Ultrasonic Silent Drive, or USD, with full-time manual override in this zoom lens, making it a competitive technology with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor, Canon's Ultrasonic Motor (USM), and Sony's Super Sonic wave Motor.

Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP AF review by Gromit

I only bought this lens 24 hours ago, but had tried to do a lot of homework before visiting my photographic dealer, and discounted several lenses which didn't reach the starting grid. I then short-listed 2 Canons - 70-200 F4L USM (non-IS) and the much-loved 70-300 IS USM.

Focus speed; solid build; great IQ; 5 yr warranty (UK

Stiff zoom ring..

The lens handles very well, the only thing that lets it down is the CA, esp at telephoto, need to stop down to f8 to reduce it. Despite the CA still prefer it over the Canon version just due to build quality and handling, have owned both.

Quiet fast AF FTM Excellent stabiliser Sharp up to 300

Chromatic Abberation especially wide open Struggles to focus accurately in low light
