Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD

The Tamron 18-270mm offers good value for money, considering it covers such a wide range of focal lengths in one lens. • Compact design
  • 15x equivalent
  • Lightweight for an all-in-one lens
Cons:
  • Fringing and chromatic aberrations quite visible on images

But this latest release introduces a newly developed AF motor called the Piezo ultrasonic motor (PZD) that delivers faster, quieter...

Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD review

This isn't the only improvement to the lens, though, as it is now 24% smaller than the old model, therefore taking up even less space in your travel bag. Superzooms are a popular choice for photographers wanting an all-in-one lens when transporting a full kit bag is impractical.

Tamron's superzoom extends from 18mm to a 270mm, giving the lens an impressive 15x zoom range. For this reason alone, many buyers will be keen to know how well Tamron's lens performs. Ergonomically, the signs are very good.

The Big Easy

I had a Tamron of similar range for my last non digital Minolta SLR. Despite being assured my lenses would fit my Sony Alpha, if at slightly different f numbers, I was unhappy to find that that particular lens did not cross over.

Much greater than I expected

I bought this for my wife, who's not great at swapping lenses and likes taking candid shots. I imagined that the quality would be compromised by the zoom range and limited apeture. Decided to try it myself one day when she was at work, and honestly amazed by the results!
Pros:
  • Great Picture Quality
  • Lightweight
  • Simple Controls
