Gary Wolstenholme reviews the 18.8x super zoom lens from Tamron, the 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro lens for APS-C cameras.
Very good sharpness in the centre; Extreme 18.8x zoom range; Effective VC system; Good build and splash proof construction; Compact and lightweight; Focuses very close for a lens that covers 300mm
CA levels towards edges of the frame are high at 300mm; Performance towards the edges of the frame falls behind at 18mm and 300mm
Convenience is something we're all guilty of craving. And when it comes to photography, superzoom lenses offer a tantalisingly easy option for photographers. Superzooms are typically aimed at enthusiast-level photographers looking for an all-in-one solution.
This is a great lens, light weight with stabilizer. My only wish is that they made such a lens for the full frame EOS cameras, particularly a CANON 6D
Nice lens. Seems well put together. NO LENS CREEP. That is a big plus. Is the lens perfect No. There's a little chromatic aberration, but that is fixable in software. Most of the issues are on the long end of the zoom. It's still a good, convenient lens with an impressive range. For me ...
used this lens for my vacation in Florida. worked out very well. just wish it was not as expensive as it was. does however beat not having to change lens all the time
Great fun and an excellent travel lens. This lens does everything well, high image quality wide to moderate telephoto range and good close focus. The VC is good, focus speed is good, build quality is fine, zoom ring and focus rings work as they should.
Great zoom range; very good image quality; small size; light weight; good build quality
Resolution at long end of the zoom range; slow maximum aperture
I'm surprised nobody has posted a review of this lens after more than 12 months of being listed, so I thought I'd go first. I purchased this lens, after reading many reviews and looking and hundreds of sample images, to replace my Tamron 18-270mm VC (which was a very disappointing lens in my...
Good performance for a lens of this massive zoom range
Quality control a bit questionable
Got it to replace the earlier 18-270 model. Extra range at both ends is nice, no noticeable sacrifice in quality - if anything it's better throughout the range. Might be a bit smaller and lighter as well. Perfect travel lens.
I have only used it once so far at a cross country off road motorcycle race and it performed better than expected. I bought this to replace my first version 18-200 Nikon. I wasn't expecting it to focus as fast as the Nikon (expecting to miss a lot of shots), but it wasn't far off.
Great image quality Faster than expected
Not as fast as focusing as Nikon (but not slow)
