When we reviewed the first generation TL-WR1043ND back in 2010 we gave it a Silver Award. It would become one of the most popular TP-Link routers, perhaps even the most popular one.

Decent for the price
Looking at a second one the modify my system. Detachable antennas is a must for me. I have had several DLink and Linksys radios over the years, this one has outlasted them all. (Most of them get fried in electrical storms with the high gain antenna. I now extra ground all systems).
Pros:
- Flashed it with DD-WRT vers 24 out of the box at least 2 years ago and have never looked back
- Have a high gain antenna attached to stretch to another building 400m away
- Radio is okay, not real powerful in my house - through 4 walls just barely connects to my cell phone, but still does
Cons:
- System goes down every few months
- unplug and reboot and it is up and running - never sure what part of the system locks up.

Bang for YO buck!
Listen, for the price, this thing is a easy buy... With all the options that you get I still find it hard to believe that it is so cheap in price. Honestly, for the price, you get a LOT with this device. It'll check off all the boxes that you could possibly have in your mind.
Pros:
- Worked RIGHT out of the box, didn't have to use the cd either. I have two separate internet connections at my home/office and this router liked them both. One is cable internet with a Dynamic address and the other is wireless based that is static
- both worked fine without a hitch.
Cons:
- Web interface
- while slick
- might be a little intimidating for some
- as it has LOADS of options

The set up CD didn't work with my desktop as mine is an old HP Compaq Presario desktop PC. But using Windows 7 wirelesss router set up wizard, it took a just over a min for me to get the router all set and running.

good purchase.
connected to virgin superhub which is in 'modem' mode. After playing with lots of settings, I learnt that that WAN IP should be set as 'Dynamic'. You may not see an IP address right away, in that case restart your superhub and then it works. A Internet address will be auto assigned.

Great and powerful router for the cost! Looks awesome, super easy setup, and tons of features to program the router with. So happy with this purchase!

junk
purchased new from a local computer man (who charged me 100.00)...worked less than a month, and during that month had loads of trouble with it. When we bypass the router and go straight to the modem , internet works great! Hook the router back up, nothing but problems. Not worth the money.

Works like a champ..so far
Just installed this about 4 days ago. This unit replaces an old US Robotics router, which was dropping WIFI regularly. This router has excellent WIFI signal and haas not had any problems so far. The speed is much better and the internae seems more responsive.
