PS4 Review: Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V is a superb fighting game, without a doubt…but it just feels unfinished in terms of content. I'm sure it'll be fleshed out over time through DLC and patches, I just wish it launched in a more complete state.

Street Fighter V review – starting a fight

Street Fighter transforms itself from just a game to an entire entertainment platform of its own, or at least it will do once all the content is up and running.

Perfectly refined combat system, that's both more complex and more accessible than ever before; Impressive range of online support options and fun new characters

A lot of important options and content aren't available at launch; The game's tutorials still aren't explicit enough for new players

Street Fighter V Review

In my nine years of reviewing video games professionally, I've never wanted to not score a game as much as I do for Street Fighter V . For all intents and purposes, this launch version of Street Fighter V is as ready to be reviewed in full as an Early Access game on Steam.

Robust fighting system that rewards skill; V-Skills; V-Triggers; V-Reversals; Satisfactory roster so far; Strong training options; Survival mode; Generally smooth online performance

Story Mode is an afterthought; No Arcade mode or Versus CPU option; Minor clipping issues; Tags

Street Fighter V PS4 Review

When Street Fighter V is at its best, it's untouchable. A fantastic fighter with layer upon layer of depth. At its worst, it feels hollow and cheap. A work in progress that hasn't quite managed to complete the parts that are there.

Hidden Potential

Street Fighter V upholds the series' legacy, offering a diverse cast of 16 characters that bring its great fighting engine to life. Combatants new and old alike vie for your attention with infectious personalities and unique fighting styles.

Excellent fighting system that promotes action over caution; New mechanics add great depth and variety; Diverse cast with a range of fighting styles

No effective training options for casual players; Insubstantial story mode; Frustrating always-online requirements for some features

Street Fighter V (PlayStation 4) Review

It has been almost a year since Street Fighter V controversially launched as a half-baked product, with Capcom charging full whack for a title that lacked a whole host of common fighting game modes and presented a handful of characters.

Street Fighter V

"This game isn't finished. Why is it on shelves?" A question I find myself asking more and more these days. Whatever it can be blamed on is definitely up for debate, but the most likely culprit is pre-order culture, which is more aggressive than it's ever been.
