Splatoon 2 (for Nintendo Switch)

Splatoon 2 feels more like an upgraded, remastered version of Splatoon than a sequel. The single player campaign is different and the cooperative Salmon Run mode is new, but otherwise it's just a fresh paint job on the same game.

Just as fun and frantic as the first game; Improved graphics; More local multiplayer options than the first Splatoon

Online matches are still heavily curated; Doesn't change much from Splatoon

Splatoon 2

The first Splatoon was a welcome blast of originality in the often risk-averse (and remaster-obsessed) world of video game development. A twist on the competitive third-person shooter, it added platform elements and - most interestingly - the ability to turn into a squid.

Review: Splatoon 2

It seems obvious in hindsight: an online shooter where head-shotting your mates is totally irrelevant, why wouldn't it be a cult classic? On Wii U of all consoles. And yet here we are with a second Splatoon for Nintendo Switch just two years after the first game wrapped its inky tentacles around our...

Splatoon 2 Review

'Splatoon 2' is a must-own multiplayer bonanza for Nintendo's Switch.

Hilarious across all three main modes; Creative and colorful design; Salmon Run changes up the formula; Turf War is as intense and addictive as ever

Multiplayer matchmaking is still archaic; No new competitive modes

Splatoon 2 review

Despite imperfections, Splatoon 2 improves on the original, and is a colourful, joyous addition to the Switch.

Paint battles are still great fun; New weapons and abilities work well; Co-op is great (as long as you find a team

Some connection and matchmaking issues

Splatoon 2 Review – Should this have been a sequel?

I loved the original Splatoon . Its lack of content hurt it at launch for me personally, but long term support turned it into one of my personal favorite games on the Wii U. I put it right next to the likes of Pikmin 3 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze .

Splatoon 2

Like the first Splatoon , Nintendo's sequel to their smash hit isn't your average multiplayer online shooter. You play as an inkling, a humanoid/squid hybrid that uses different items, like guns and rollers, to spread colored ink on the ground and other surroundings.

Review: Splatoon 2

Much like the original, multiplayer is where this game really takes centre stage[...] an incredibly simple concept becomes a madcap, fast paced, heart pounding paint fest as you strive until the very last minute to cover as much ground as you possibly can.

Immensely fun; Great single player and mini game; Easy to join in; hard to master; Updates due consistently; Local multiplayer

Issues not resolved from original; Possible options hidden behind Amiibo; More like version 1.5 than 2

Splatoon 2 review

An improvement in nearly every way on one of Nintendo's finest games in years, Splatoon 2 is only let down by a lack of big new ideas.

When the original Splatoon was released it was fairly bare. There was no ranked mode, only one game type and five maps. It took months of free updates - the work of a dedicated team of developers - to make it the confident and accomplished game we now know it as.
