Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Xbox 360 Review

After years of swinging around in open worlds in gaming, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is a largely straightforward and old fashioned fighting game and, as such, could be seen as a regression for a game featuring Marvel's web crawling icon, but it feels very focussed and doesn't feature...

Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions

Let's be honest, following the videogame adaptations of the first two Spider-Man movies in the early 2000's, Activision was simply unable to put out a "great" Spider-Man game. Spider-Man 3, Ultimate Spider-Man, Friend or Foe and most recently Web of Shadows…it became apparent that like our friendly...

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

My Spidey senses are tingling again, this could only mean one thing... a new Spider-Man game has dropped and I have the pleasure of playing it. Spider-Man : Shattered Dimensions blends together four dramatically different universes from the Marvel Comics multiverse, allowing players to play as four...

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Everyone's favorite wall crawler has returned. Over the past few years Spider-Man has become one […]

+ Fantastic voice acting; + Easy combat; + Looks amazing; + Each dimension "feels" different

Troublesome camera; Gets tedious real quick; Stealth in a SpiderMan game Why

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (Xbox 360)

I won't lie; I wasn't particularly excited to play Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Linear levels, four different Spider-Men, and an unproven developer Correct me if I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound like a winning formula to me.

Multiple gameplay and artistic styles; excellent voice acting; ingenious boss fights

Only 13 levels; glitch-prone; frequently repeated lines

it is no Batman Arkham Asylum....

.... though it really, REALLY tries hard. In Batman AA I loved the fighting mechanics. After playing the challenges, I really appreciated Batman as one of the best fighting titles ever. Well, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions tries to be a clone, but fails in the fighting scenes.

The four protagonists (The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir

In the graphic, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions exudes quality. The four protagonists (The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099 and Ultimate Spider-Man) are uniquely designed, with fluid movements and an almost perfect interaction with all elements of their environment.

Swinging Four Ways

It's an inventive solution, to say the least. When attempting to adapt a long-running and varied a property like Spider-Man, how does the corporation exploiting that property decide on which version of the web-slinger to feature

Dragging a gunsel into the shadows and webbing them to a wall in a single; effortless motion

Being unable to tell an enemy from a wall in 2099

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Tingles Our Spider Sense

Spider-Man has been around a while (since 1962, to be exact), and like every superhero, he's gone through big changes both cosmetic and practical over the years. But it's still surprising that developer Beenox chose to take three recent incarnations of the web-slinging superhero and bring them...

enjoy combat variety; get a thrill from slingin' across the city

you want to be engaged in a story; a unsteady camera irks you

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

But if you're going to steal, steal from the best, and the Noir dimension definitely has some sneaky appeal, part of which is fueled by the excellent art design that brings every universe to life in a unique and vibrant way.

Terrific artistic design; Great freedom of movement; Powerful combat abilities; Rich with Spider-Man personality; Tantalizing level-specific challenges

Noir universe doesn't fit in quite right; Some locomotion snags; Certain levels can get repetitive
