Sony's Xperia S Android phone is the company's first product release following its acquisition of the Sony Ericsson joint venture last October. The Xperia S has a great screen, a good camera and looks every bit the premium device, but it has too many niggling flaws to immediately recommend.
Pros:
  • Excellent display
  • Slick performance and user interface
  • Decent battery life
Cons:
  • No expandable memory
  • Terrible capacitive shortcut keys
  • Still waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich

Sony Xperia S Review

Sony has a lot riding on its success in the Android arena; since transitioning from feature phones with the Xperia X10 in 2010, the company has supported Google's mobile OS to the hilt, and badly wants to position itself as a true rival to the likes of Samsung and HTC.

So the Sony and Ericsson affair has finally ended and the mobile tech world is waiting for Sony to reveal its pure blood offspring the way they would for the next pope. What Sony has released from its labs is far from anything that resembles a PlayStation-loving teenager.

  • * beautiful screen
  • very high pixel density
  • * great camera
  • * large built-in storage
Cons:
  • * a little chunky
  • could have been thinner

The Sony Xperia S is a phone a lot of people have been looking forward to ever since it was announced by the newly formed Sony Mobile back at CES. It is Sony Mobile's first flagship Android device so I was expecting they would go all-out on it.
Pros:
  • Slick
  • sexy design with a solid feel
  • Insane 720p display with 340ppi
  • Dedicated camera button reduces shaking
  • Decent 12.1MP camera for photos
Cons:
  • Android 2.3.7
  • Over 10 Sony apps that shouldn't be installed by default
  • Shaky video
  • Bad touch response
  • Takes a long time to charge
  • No automatic brightness
