Sony Xperia Ion pictures and hands-on
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ion, or should that be Sony Xperia Ion, is a 4.6-inch display touting Android smartphone coming to AT&T in the US. Launched at CES in Las Vegas, Pocket-lint was on hand at the show to have a play with the new American Sony high-end smartphone to see whether it should be on...

Review from CES 2012: In addition to the Xperia S smartphone, we also saw Sony announce the Xperia ion. And similar to our hands on gallery with the Sony Xperia S, we also spent a few minutes with the ion. Though while nice, we have to say that it was not quite as fancy looking as the Xperia S.

Playing it smart: the Sony Xperia Ion review
After Sony bought out the mobile portion of its longtime Sony-Ericsson partnership, the company decided to join the smartphone war in earnest. If we don't count the niche Xperia Play , Sony is dreadfully late to the party, especially for a company that seeks to make as many of the screens a human...
Pros:
- Screen has excellent level of detail
- Body looks pretty nice
- when the brushed metal back isn't covered in fingerprints
- Overall performance
- soft key interactions aside
- is very fluid
- Camera takes great photos in good lighting situations
Cons:
- The soft keys
- Why are they so difficult? Just accept my loving taps, Indoor photos, a bit meh for a 12-megapixel camera, Speaker should be ashamed of itself

Did you just skip to this section? No, of course you shouldn't. The phone is beautiful on the outside but it runs like a dog turd in snow-melt. Maaaaybe it'll help when it upgrades to Android 4.0 (if Sony doesn't butcher it with its rather unappealing skin), but the fact that it's this far behind...

Sony Xperia ion (AT&T) review
Sony Ericsson is no more. The once powerful and arguably innovative phone manufacturer was cannibalized by Sony this year when it paid nearly $1.5 billion for Ericsson's stake in the company.
Pros:
- solid camera
- fast data
Cons:
- terrible battery life
- poor display
- sluggish performance
- dated software

Sony's Solo Smartphone: Sharp Shooter, Sleepy Software
Sony has finally struck out on its own. The Sony Ericsson partnership is over - Sony bought out Ericsson's slice of the phone-making venture earlier this year - and the first Sony-branded phone is the Xperia Ion , a new Android handset exclusive to AT&T's 4G LTE network.
Pros:
- Sony delivers a flagship-worthy CPU, display and camera at a mid-range $100 price point
- Quality materials make the phone feel durable
- Nice touchscreen display.
Cons:
- Has all the personality of a Ford Taurus
- Outdated, clunky design
- It runs last year's operating system (Gingerbread? Really?

Sony Xperia Ion (AT&T) review: Elegant smartphone stumbles
Even the Xperia's 12-megapixel camera can't hold a candle to the imaging systems on those high-powered gadgets. A better choice is the Nokia Lumia 900, which for the same price has a more attractive design and better camera.
Pros:
- The affordable Sony Xperia Ion has solid call quality and swift 4G LTE that ties into Sony's vast entertainment empire
Cons:
- Lackluster images and video belie the Xperia's claimed 12MP camera
- It's also held back by an old processor and an outdated OS

Sony Xperia ion
Sony has lagged behind in the U.S. smartphone market, but the company hopes to turn a corner with its first post-Ericsson smartphone, the Xperia ion. The device leverages many of Sony's unique assets, including its own sensor for the 12-megapixel camera and a mobile version of Sony's TV Bravia...
Pros:
- Bright and sharp 4.6-inch 720p display
- Superb 12-MP camera
- 4G LTE at value price
- SmartTags feature lets you control the phone from a keychain
Cons:
- Ships with older Android Gingerbread 2.3.7
- Heavier and thicker than competing smartphones
- Capacitive buttons hard to read
- Tinny audio from speaker

Sony Xperia Ion
The Sony Xperia Ion is a sweet phone for a great price that's just not getting enough love. For $99 you get an award winning design with a sleek glass front and curved metal back, LTE 4G and a 12MP camera. And you thought the once $99 Nokia Lumia was a good deal? The Ion tops it for hardware specs.
Pros:
- Gorgeous display
- elegant looks with quality materials
Cons:
- Last generation CPU and ships with Android 2.3
