Good, not as good as hoped

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: I bought this while living in Hawaii and sold it a little before moving. The whole process of getting it from dv to file format was just too annoying for me. The quality of the video was pretty good, not as high as hoped. The slow motion capture was a nice feature, but was pretty restrictive.

A very solid HD camcorder at a great price

★★★★★ 5.0
Verdict: Unless you're using "night shot" mode, be sure you have adequate light. If not, image quality quickly drops off to be comparable to standard camcorders. (This probably is an issue with any HD camcorder.
Pros: Small and light. Image quality is stunning, assuming you have enough light. Controls are relatively straightforward. Flip-out screen is a touch screen, and changing options/etc. is simple
Cons: Battery life could be better -- watch yourself on this, because when it starts dropping, it goes fast. Only HD resolution available is 1080i - no progressive 24p or 720/60p or anything like that. Like all touch screens, the flip-out screen gets dirty from being touched. :

Sony HDR-HC5

★★★★ 4.0
Verdict: Sony's HDR-HC5E MiniDV handycam is labelled as a "hi-def" camera, and while it certainly does deliver video in impressive 1080i resolution, it's important to note that this doesn't necessarily guarantee that your movies will look like true high definition video.
Pros: HD 1080i recording, great battery life and feature set
Cons: Expensive, colour representation lacking in some areas
