A sleek and compact AVCHD camera that records great-looking video/still images directly to Memory Stick, is relatively easy to use and includes features that will appeal to the consumer-level videographer.

Record AVCHD to memory stick; Capture stills while recording video; Smooth Slow Record mode; Compact and lightweight; High-quality HD video with accurate color

No viewfinder; Manual controls embedded in touch screen navigation system

Sony HDR-CX7 Review

Sony is usually first to market with ground-breaking technology-Walkman, Trinitron, CD players, HDV camcorders–you know the drill. The company, along with Panasonic, created the newer AVCHD high-def camcorder format and had the first models for sale, the HDR-UX1 and HDR-SR1 .

Quality HD video recording to flash memory; intuitive menu system

No card compatibility with Sony flat panel TVs; poor supplied software

The Advanced Video Codec High Definition format is rapidly replacing the DV format in the consumer space

This month we've begun focusing on the future of consumer digital video; AVCHD. The Advanced Video Codec High Definition format is rapidly replacing the DV format in the consumer space, and will soon work its way up into the prosumer with forthcoming products.

Serves its purpose.

This camcorder is pretty cool. I use it to make YouTube videos and it functions sufficiently for that purpose. The Nightshot feature is cool. There are a lot of complaints about Sony's format, AVCHD, but freemake opensource video converter is an easy fix.

Excellent HD Camcorder By Sony

The Sony HDR-CX7 camcorder is very well designed with plenty of features and records in high definition. The camcorder has a black outer shell with lines that add an executive look to it. The look will easily let people know you have an expensive and top of the range kit in your hands.

Very good video quality; Beautiful design; Easy menu system

No compatible card playing TVs; Poor software supplied; Not very good stills

Thanks to recent developments in advanced video compression techniques, it is now possible to store genuine high definition footage in surprisingly small places. The Sony HDR-CX7K offers the most memory-efficient method yet; recording all data directly to memory stick.

Excellent picture quality; 6.1-megapixel stills mode; extremely compact

Recording times; a bit on the light side

Sony HDR-CX7 Camcorder

As much as I love the appearance, build quality, size and comfort of this unit, I can not give it 5 stars. The only issues that bug me are first and foremost the suckie software. I even tried "Ulead Video 11" after trying over and over to work with the stock software.

Great Camera, Small Problem

If you place a mirror close to what you are shooting, then you should be fine.

True hi-def; meaning 1920x1080 resolution Uses memory card Small; light-weight Very clear LCD

I went to Best Buy and saw one of these on display; I was highly impressed at everything this camera packs; But just as I was considering making the purchase, I noticed that the camera did not have that peek-through view finder in the back!

Sony Handycam HDR-CX7K

No sooner had we gotten our hands on the Sony Handycam HDR-CX7K, its mantle as the "world's smallest HD camcorder" was no more, with former title holder, Panasonic, releasing its latest high-def SD-card model, the SD5 .

Sharp and colourful video; Small enough to be stowed in a handbag

Included 4GB card can only hold between 30 and 85 minutes of high-def; Component and USB connections only on docking station; No mini-HDMI cable supplied
