Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS

The FE 100-400mm delivers excellent image quality, a pro-grade build, fast autofocus, and strong image stabilization. There's a little distortion and some corner dimness to contend with, though both are easily removed with some light editing.

Solid telephoto zoom range; In-lens stabilization; Adjustable zoom tension; Focus hold and limit functions; Compact, lightweight design; Sturdy, dust- and moisture-resistant construction; Removable tripod foot; Teleconverter compatibility

Not the brightest aperture; Extends when zoomed; Dim corners when shot wide open; Pricier than similar lenses for other systems

Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Review

Announced alongside the Sony Alpha 9 body last year, the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM is a crucial addition to Sony's expanding full-frame E-mount lineup. The last couple of years has seen Sony release some beautiful lenses for their full-frame mirrorless cameras, but a glaring hole remained at...

Sony FE 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 GM OSS review

The Sony FE 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 G Master is a telephoto zoom for its e-mount mirrorless cameras, and corrected for use on full-frame bodies. Announced alongside the professional Alpha A9 body, it delivers the longest reach of Sony's native e-mount lenses to date.

Good working glass

I have had this lens for several months and came from lots of years shooting with Canon. I loved my Canon 100-400. This lens does everything the Canon did and is easier to shoot. I like the balance, the tripod shoe is 100% better. The color and sharpness is perfect.

Excellent Optics; doesn't zoom smoothly though

The optics from this lens are first-rate; as good or better than the Canon 100-400 L ii lens and better than Sony's 70-200 F4 offering. However, my copy of the lens has a definite grinding feel when zooming down from 200-100mm in focal length, and that concerns me that the gearing might have a...

Why Buy the 70-200 GM When You Can Have the 100-400GM

Excellent build quality. High quality construction. Not as heavy as I thought it would be, which is good. Has three assignable buttons one can use in portrait/landscape orientations. Detachable foot.

Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Review

The Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS is an optically stabilised long-telephoto zoom, designed to work with the firm's full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. It costs £2500. A few months ago, I managed to get my hands on one of the first samples of the Sony Alpha 9 – a full-frame mirrorless wonder...

Superb optics; Fast; accurate autofocus; Relatively lightweight design

Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS

Sony announced the super telephoto FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS lens at the same time as its professional-level A9 full-frame compact system camera. It represents the longest focal length to-date from Sony for the E mount, and is aimed pretty squarely at professional sports, wildlife and action...
