I recommend investing in the Sony ECM-XYST1M to use to replace the internal mic because of the improved quality of the audio and the directional pickup brings out the sound that is directly in front of you. You will appreciate this when you do interviews.

There are situations when the in-camera microphone is not directed properly to the subject sound and the microphone picks up extraneous sounds. The lens hood on many cameras further reduces the pickup of the source by hiding portions of the in camera mic.

Haven t had a chance to try it outside yet...however did a test inside with my fan on...I am impressed could not here the fan at all at 10 feet from it....pretty darn good :) would buy it again...
