The AF performance is pretty good for a contrast detection system (albeit highly dependent on the base camera). AF operations are basically noiseless. Manual focusing works "by wire" so the focus ring is not directly coupled to the focus gears but to the AF motor.
First, this is a terrific lens in it's class: normal focal length macro lens, for the crop-sensor E-mount Sony cameras (e.g. A6000 and cousins). Exc image quality. The focusing is internal, meaning the outside of the lens doesn't move, a great convenience. Design is clean. Light weight.
very happy with the quality and the price. Was unable to source it locally in Australia and was a bit nervous about buying it from overseas but it works fine and takes great photos.
I’ve used a Canon 100mm macro lens and the Sony 50mm macro lens for many photos; this lens does not have the image quality of either of those two lenses. The borders are particularly soft on my NEX-7.
I have attached a picture of a fly I took with this lens & my NEX-3, this picture was taken hand held and using the auto focus as the fly didn't want to stay still - I think this is a great example of the capabilities of this lens. I have also used for non-macro pictures with great results.
Great Picture Quality; Lightweight; Quick autofocus
I feel like this is no better than a kit lens. Lenses are one of those things you just have to spend some money on to notice a difference.
For this money, it's a steal. The FL is not very usefull for bugs. But that is no con for what it is. Sony make us happy with a 60 macro please.
Good IQ; light; quick; veru compact; price is great
FL range not ideal for wildlife (sony make a 60 in black please)

Image quality
This is an excellent lense that matches perfectly with my Sony Nex-7. I would strongly recommend this lense to my friends who want to take detailed close-up photos.
Good quality and price
