Sony Cyber-shot DSC-QX10

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-QX10 ($249.99 direct) is one of two lens-style cameras that the company is marketing for use as add-on lenses for Android and iOS phones. There's no LCD; instead, the 18-megapixel QX10 sends a Live View feed to your phone's screen via Wi-Fi.

Sharp lens; 10x zoom range; Compact; On-camera shutter and zoom controls; Wi-Fi with NFC; iOS and Android compatibility

Image noise at moderate ISO settings; Live view feed can lag; Shutter lag when triggering from phone; Takes time to mount to phone; Slow startup compared to a standalone camera; No support for Windows Phone

It's no secret that the smartphone market is rapidly eating into the compact camera market. Many companies are trying to figure out new ways to get consumers to buy dedicated image making devices, but Sony's approach is to produce something that works with your smartphone rather than competing...

Overall the QX10 generated some nice photos under the right conditions, and the zoom was useful to have compared with using a phone on its own. However we struggle to see who would buy this device.

I am sure I made a good purchase

Gonna take a trip to observe and photograph birds. Not need to take as many objective for small plans this camera will be ideal. It is true that some necessotarão photos of some aftercare via Photoshop or similar, but this did not disqualify.

Easy to Use

Poor Image Quality

Cyber-shot

Average to poor. It does not replace the stand alone phone but does give a better quality photo to work with in Adobe.

Better quality photo; It is OK to work in Photoshop

many times requires two hands to line the camera up to the subject; It is only a backup camers but the ad shouts that it can be a replacement camera; Not true

Cool Spycam

Entry level camera, lag is an issue for wifi or nfc connectivity though not always. Price is too high for its spec, but I guess for the size, look and coolness that bring the price up.

Easy to Use; Good Battery Life; Great Resolution; Great Zoom; Small / Compact

Complicated Controls; Lag / Shutter Delay; No Viewfinder

Very powerful little guy !

I was looking for a lightweight yet powerfull add-on for my phone to take real pictures. This little device from Sony answered my requirements. I can take a picture with the lens from my phone very easily. Sony improved the app interface to let you tweak the picture parameters.
