Good but noisy

Putting in a disc starts a multitude of fairly loud clunks, and then the clunks continue until the movie starts. I have had other brands of Blu-ray players and this is the first one to make so much noise. The nice features include many Apps, and You Tube is done very well.
Pros:
  • Nice features
Cons:
  • Noisy

Excellent Product--Fast Shipping

Just bought and hooked up my Sony BDP-S590 to my new Sony STRDH830 AV receiver. Nothing much to say except it was, as my kids say, easy-peasy lemon squeezy to set up, connect to the internet and watch a movie Batman--The Beginning.

Sony BDP-S590

The Sony BDP-S590 is a good Blu-ray player, with built-in Wi-Fi, 3D support, and fast performance. It has a few minor video processing issues, and its on-player controls feel flimsy, keeping it from the top-tier. At $129.99, however, it's a solid choice.

Sony BDP-S590

In the current Blu-ray player market, the winner is decided by inches, not miles. We've seen a wave of affordable (sub-$150) players full of useful features with great performance, and it's the small details that separate the good Blu-ray players from the great ones.
Pros:
  • Supports 3D
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Quick performance
Cons:
  • Slight video processing issues
  • Controls on player feel awkward

Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray 3D Player Review

Manufacturers are cranking out Blu-ray players at an alarming rate. The super-expensive top-of-the-line Blu-ray player is still out there for people who want to pay for it. However, there are plenty of affordable options as well, and many provide features and performance that would have cost you a...
Pros:
  • Stunning 2D and 3D images
  • Mind-boggling number of web-based features
  • Built-in WiFi
  • Great companion app
Cons:
  • Construction seems flimsy
  • Slow
  • clunky web browser

Plus 7 ain't Plus 7

Lovely to operate. Also I was easily able to turn ipad and phone into remotes. I had one major disappointment since I mainly bought it for wifi and catchup TV aps, especially iView and Plus 7 (after teenage son permanently removed PS3 to his bedroom. Sigh...

Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity

Sony was the inventor and chief advocate of Blu-ray and has probably put more players into homes than any other company with the PlayStation 3. However when we ran a pair of their players through our HDMI Benchmark tests last year their performance left a lot to be desired.

Sony BDP-S590

No matter how you feel about Sony, it's hard to deny that the company has a knack for product design. The Sony BDP-S590 ($140 street price) falls right in line with that tradition, as it's the only Blu-ray player I've seen this year that actually looks attractive, while most competitors are little...
Pros:
  • The Sony BDP-S590 has built-in Wi-Fi, 3D compatibility, and an ample suite of streaming-media services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, Pandora, and Vudu
  • It's also the sleekest Blu-ray player I've seen this year, with a well-designed remote that includes a dedicated Netflix button.
Cons:
  • Sony's user interface isn't as intuitive as those from some competitors, especially the interfaces for Amazon Instant and Hulu Plus
  • It's also relatively slow at loading discs, taking almost twice as long as some competitors

Worst Blu-Ray Player

Out of three different Blu-Ray Players we have, Sony has went above and beyond in creating the worst Blu-ray player out there. This is the slowest Blu-Ray player I have ever seen. It takes for ever to process anything, from playing a movie to on-line interent apps. DO NOT WAIST your time or money.
Pros:
  • Nothing
  • Stay away even if it was Free
Cons:
  • Slow, Slow, Slow
  • Constantly Errors
