Sony Alpha 77 SLT extended review
The Sony SLT-Alpha 77 is a very serious piece of gear but it took me a while to enjoy it. I had four weeks with the review camera to form an opinion but it wasn't until well into the fourth week that it all started coming together.
Pros:
- Focusing options
- Shutter response
- 10 frames per second
- Articulated viewfinder
- EVF and good looking video
Cons:
- Slow camera response to all inputs except shutter button
- Exposure information is substandard in live-view
- Poor raw file integration and support
- Complicated and unintuitive manual and menu system

Sony Alpha SLT-A77
The Sony Alpha A77 is a major leap forward for the company in DSLR design, features and image capabilities, finally putting Sony into the competitive mix with Canon and Nikon in the prosumer DSLR marketplace.
Pros:
- 24.3-megapixel APS-C sensor offers great resolution for a prosumer DSLR
- Unique Sony translucent-mirror tech provides full-time phase-detect autofocus
- Full-time live view by default
- 12 frames-per-second capture rate
- Fast autofocus
- burst
- shutter lag
- shot-to-shot and continuous mode speeds
- Full
Cons:
- Somewhat heavy for a prosumer DSLR, Uses an EVF instead of an optical viewfinder
- EVF appears dim when used in bright light, Camera doesn't switch fast enough between the LCD viewfinder and EVF after viewfinder detects you're looking through it, leaving you in the dark for a brief moment, Images

Sony Alpha SLT-A77V
I'll lead off by saying that I enjoyed shooting with the Sony Alpha SLT-A77V more than any camera since the Nikon D7000 . It's heavy, especially with the 16-50mm kit lens (which, by the way, has become my favorite Sony lens), but the grip is comfy, it feels well balanced, and with only a few...
Pros:
- A well-designed camera that's enjoyable to shoot
- partly thanks to a great viewfinder
- the fixed-mirror Sony Alpha SLT-A77V bests the competition with features like a cleverly articulated display
- built-in GPS for geotagging
- and very good 1080/60p video
Cons:
- There are some annoying omissions in the A77V's feature set
- including odd limitations for raw and video shooting
- plus battery life is subpar

I've now had the a77 for a few months and I'm very pleased with it. On the plus side is the 24mp sensor that with the right lenses can give some great detail for an aps-c sensor. Some of the other positives are the 12fps, gorgeous HD video and weather sealing.

Sony Alpha SLT-A77VQ review
Packed with features and impressive strengths including a superb kit lens, but high noise levels and lethargic controls aren't acceptable at this price

Sony Alpha SLT-A77
This top-end Sony camera ticks all the right boxes from image quality to blisteringly fast shooting. If only it had a better battery and was a little more snappy in everyday use, we would have no qualms in recommending it wholeheartedly.
Pros:
- Excellent build quality
- Very nice kit lens
- GPS built in
- Excellent HD video quality
Cons:
- Response times could be faster
- Battery drains quickly
