Sony NEX-7 Review

There's long been talk of a high-end Compact System Camera (CSC) to attract a more demanding user base to the ‘miniaturised' market sector. Following the release of the flagship Alpha SLT-A77 translucent mirror model earlier this year (which, by the way, we thought was a roaring success) Sony's...

Sony Alpha Nex-7 Single lens kit

Very sharp images either JPEG or RAW. Noise reduction is superior in low setting. DRO is very useful and even HDR is wonderful tool to use. This camera body has a metal feel to it and I love it. The handling is so good and rather comfortable with.
Pros:
  • Very sharp images either JPEG or RAW
  • Noise reduction is superior in low setting
  • DRO is very useful and even HDR is wonderful tool to use
  • This camera body has a metal feel to it and I love it
  • The handling is so good and rather comfortable with.
Cons:
  • Circle dial with button in middle probably bit too easy to turn like I turn too much by accident
  • AF Illuminator too close to my hand which I hold the grip perhaps? But I remind myself to pull my 2nd index finger further away to allow AF Illuminator to shine at in the dark.

Sony NEX-7 review

The lower-end NEX cameras are excellent, but they're designed for a user wanting something between the simple point-and-shoot and the enormous and complex DSLR. The NEX-7 isn't such a compromise: it's not quite in DSLR territory without more manual control, but it's probably close enough for most...
Pros:
  • Excellent pictures and video
  • Fast performance
  • Very easy to use
Cons:
  • Still doesn't have DSLR-level manual control
  • OLED viewfinder is mediocre
  • Lens ecosystem isn't as good as Nikon or Canon
