An extra dial makes all the difference
With the NEX-5R, Sony has managed to make an excellent camera even better with greatly improved handling and better autofocus, without compromising the great image and video quality found in its predecessor.
Pros:
- Great low-light performance
- Excellent video capture
- Improved handling over previous generation
Cons:
- Small lens selection
- No viewfinder
- Controls are still limited

Sony's first foray into web-connected, app-compatible cameras, the NEX 5R takes a different approach to other Internet-savvy snappers like the Samsung Galaxy Camera and Nikon Coolpix S800c, both of which use Android.

This is my first camera that I've ever owned. I have always taken pictures from my cell phone, but wanted a good camera to take pictures of my new child. This camera has completely surpassed my expectations. I am still trying to figure out how to consistently defocus pictures and use some features.
Pros:
- Easy to use

[REVIEW-SONY NEX-5r compact system camera
This 16 megapixel camera compact system camera is the latest development of Sony's NEX range. The overall design has been refined to improve the aesthetic balance of body and lens. When the lens is retracted it no longer over-powers the body.

WELL BUILT CAMERA WITH HIGH IQ
Evaluated Olympus EPL5 & Sony NEX5R. Chose the NEX in a close call & do not regret the choice. Reasons: - More detail definition in RAW especially at higher ISO - JPEG very close at low ISO, with NEX noticably better at higher ISO.

So much camera in such a small package
After 6 months of research, I bought this camera and the 50mm/1.8 lens. I wanted the camera for 3 primary purposes: - family portraits and candids - outdoor photography on hiking trips (so small size was important) - gymnastics photos and video (very low light, very high speed) I knew that this...

This camera is more of a beefed up point & shoot camera than a compact DSLR
WATCH OUT! The NEX-5R seems like a good choice at first, but if you're looking for a good camera for your money's worth, you'll regret buying this. The lens choices on this camera are unreasonably expensive and have limited capabilities.

Sony Alpha NEX-5R
Sony's NEX camera series has grown from two models to four, and the new Alpha NEX-5R ($749.99 direct with 18-55mm lens) now occupies a difficult position in the lineup. It costs $150 more than our Editors' Choice entry-level compact interchangeable lens camera, the Alpha NEX-F3 , and for that money...
Cons:
- No built-in flash
- So-so kit lens
- No hot shoe
- No dedicated battery charger.
