Surprisingly sharp lens that's a good upgrade on a kit lens
Having read some online reviews on this lens I noted Kurt Munger's review and didn't feel inspired by what I saw. However having had the opportunity to try the lens myself I can report that the lens is almost an entirely different animal to the online review I read.

Very quick and quiet autofocus. Pictures are much sharper than my older Minolta 28-85. Not sure how much of that is due to the 'compensation' performed by the camera for the newer lenses. There is a lock switch, but for some silly reason it only engages at 18mm zoom.

Sony 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 DT SAM SAL18135 review by Perry Rhodan
On the A 57 it handles like a dream. Very speedy AF that is almost inaudible. The IQ is very good, matching those above it's price point. Feels very solid and zooms very fluently without any stiffer points. For this price THE allround lens to get for your A57.
Pros:
- almost silent and speedy AF
- very decent IQ allround
- very good built quality
Cons:
- non

Sony DT 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM Lens
Sony's new DT 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM lens has been developed to cover the focal lengths that are most frequently used by everyday photographers. This lens is designed for cameras with APS-C sized sensors and provides field-of-view coverage equivalent to 27-202.5mm in 35mm format.
Pros:
- You want a compact and lightweight general-purpose zoom lens for everyday and travel photography and shooting movies with a Sony DSLR
- You require superior performance and good flatness of field
- You'd like a lens that requires no readjustment when you fit polarisers and graduated filters
Cons:
- You need true macro capabilities
- You don't use a Sony SLT-A series camera
