Sharp!

Im a bit of a sharpness fanatic. Id previously tried the 2.0x TC and was very disappointed with the results. On my 70-200 GM, this one is suitably sharp at 280mm. Its still a teleconverter, and you do take a slight hit in quality, but the combo of the 1.4x and 70-200 GM performs on par with or...

Compatibility

This lens will work with any Sony or Minolta lens that is white in color. I have both the 1.4X and the 2X Teleconverters. I prefer the 1.4X.

No Loss Of Contrast

Works Wonderfully with Sony 100-400mm lens.

Works wonderfully with the Sony 100-400mm lens. I didn't notice any loss in sharpness. Good combination for taking pictures of Birds.

Not sure what to do with this?

I bought this 1.4 teleconverter because I cannot afford the 12,000 dollar 500mm telephoto lens. I thought I'd try this on my 70/400 mm telephoto lens. Problem is I cant manually focus the long shots, which is why I bought this. So I have this expensive piece of gear for moon shots. For now.

For that little bit extra reach

Great addition to 100-400 G Master, adds reach at small aperture loss.

Great Picture Quality

Extremely sharp; Constant f/2.8 aperture; Includes tripod collar

Expensive; Big and heavy; Noticeable distortion

The Sony 70-200mm F2.8 G is without doubt an excellent lens. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's based on a 7-year old Minolta design - it's at least a match for the more recent third party options from Tamron and Sigma, and only just outperformed by Nikon's very latest (and pricey) 70-200mm F2.8...

Excellent image quality on full frame; very good on APS-C; Superb build quality; Fast; silent autofocus with manual override; Well-placed AF stop buttons

A bit soft wide open at the telephoto end on APS-C; No dust or moisture sealing (which we'd expect in a 'Pro' level lens; Slightly suspect image quality at closest focus (very soft indeed at F2.8; Extremely expensive compared to third party alternatives

Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G SAL-70200G

THE TEST SCORES SLR.GEAR ARE TRUE!! This lens is a good 70-200mm IS works well down to 1/200th at 200mm. The lens is just as sharp as the 70-400mm between 70-400mm at f/4-f/8, but not sharper. IF you use a TC 1.4x the 70-400mm will blow this out of the water!!

Bright superb color rendering

Focus speed is just ok ; Not as sharp as price indicates

Extraordinary Lens

I had to wait quite awhile for this lens. It was worth it. I am a recent convert to a Sony a7 r ii from Nikon. The transition is proving daunting but this lens makes it all worth while. And special thanks to Abt for being the only place able to obtain it!
