I love the playbase. I was able to setup for surround sound with other speakers from sonos. The sound is great and the setup was super easy

Now I been using the Playbase for months on end and have zero complaints. Now will this change down the line The fact there is no HDMI or DTS support could be a deal breaker for some. This coupled with its high price tag of $699 .
The Playbase is expensive and you can certainly get ones a lot cheaper if you don't mind a simple setup. However, you pretty much get you what pay for here in terms of superior sound quality, design and all the additional features that come with a Sonos multi-room speaker.
I was looking for a CD changer to play old CD's. An Abt audio consultant suggested a Sonos Playbase. We bought a new Sony LED TV at the same time, replacing a 14-year-old Sharp. I really enjoy being able to manage my music from my laptop or smartphone.
On paper, the Sonos Playbase seems like any other soundbase. Like the Sonos Playbar from 2013, it takes over audio duties from your flat screen TV, which usually needs a bit of help – and it saves space doing so by letting your TV sit on it.
Good looks; solid build; Seamless app integration; Sonos app is still be best remote app ever; Responsive touch keys; Can be expanded with extra speakers
No HDMI; Expensive if you want to build a system
Sonos's latest speaker is built not to go around your TV, nor in front of it. It's built to go underneath, and to blend in with your existing furniture more than any Sonos speaker before it.
I feel like I should wrap this up by saying that I wish I had never received the Playbase for review. The thought of going back to my TV's built-in speakers makes me want to cry inside, as does the fact that I am going to want to buy some sort of external speaker setup to fill the sonic void in my...
Form factor Even though it's wide enough to sit underneath a TV, the Playbase is still sleek and stylish; Most TVs fit on it, though those with the "claw feet" may have some trouble, Sound A truly beautiful thing, the sound quality is absolutely superb; The bass is especially spectacular.
Setup This process was more painful than I would have liked; The WiFi setup continually failed when I initially received my review unit and I was forced to use an ethernet connection.
Just like the Playbar, it's an easy-but-expensive recommendation for people who want better sound than what their TV can do on its own. Just like the Playbar, the Playbase can instantly become part of your existing Sonos multi-room music setup.
Easy setup; Excellent; balanced sound; Makes a great music speaker; too
Expensive; Lacks DTS and HDMI connectivity; No mics for our voice assistant future
When we heard Sonos was making a sound base, we knew the company was taking a hell of a risk. That's because many of today's TVs simply won't fit on top of them. A sound base is a flat box of a speaker designed to sit underneath a TV's stand.
The Sonos Playbase is a low-slung sound base with impeccable design and impressive sound; Its bass is even better than the Playbar's, so there's no need for a sub; Sonos' app and other speakers make it part of one of the best multiroom systems available
The wide effect needs breathing room -- unadorned walls, too, if you please; No DTS support, HDMI ports or Bluetooth; If you have a "clawfoot" TV, it may not fit on top
Musically the PlayBase is also a highly accomplished performer. Hi-Fi quality streaming from Tidal is dynamic, lustrous and tonally balanced. The drums during Jacko's Billie Jean are punchier than a series of jabs from Tyson Fury, whilst the trumpets during the Raiders of the Lost are sparkly and...
Great build quality; sound performance and is easy to set up
Lack of HDMI and no DTS decoding
