Sonos Playbase Review: The Ultimate Soundbar

The Sonos Playbase impresses with its big bass, clear vocals and room-filling power. It's easy to set up and use, and sounds great whether you're playing movies, TV shows or music. In other words, it hits all the things you want out of a soundbase.

Big-time bass; Clear vocals; Room-filling sound; Easy to set up and use

No HDMI; Expensive

Sonos Playbase

On paper, the Sonos Playbase seems like any other soundbase. Like the Sonos Playbar from 2013, it takes over audio duties from your flat screen TV, which usually needs a bit of help – and it saves space doing so by letting your TV sit on it.

Good looks; solid build; Seamless app integration; Sonos app is still be best remote app ever; Responsive touch keys; Can be expanded with extra speakers

No HDMI; Expensive if you want to build a system

Sonos PlayBase review: Super-slim soundbase makes TV sound sublime

The Sonos PlayBase is beautifully designed as the perfect sound-enhancing solution for your telly. It delivers excellent sound quality and enough bass to be sufficient as a top notch standalone speaker too.

Fantastic sound quality; Super slim and solid design; Ample bass without sub; Sonos app platform remains one of the best out there; Seamless multi-room integration with Sonos system

Very expensive; No HDMI; Sub sold separately; No DTS Surround support

Sonos Playbase review

The Playbase is expensive and you can certainly get ones a lot cheaper if you don't mind a simple setup. However, you pretty much get you what pay for here in terms of superior sound quality, design and all the additional features that come with a Sonos multi-room speaker.

Sonos Playbase Review

The TV soundbase, while building a small niche for itself over several years, has yet to set the world on fire, with sales that are undoubtedly minuscule compared with soundbars. Sonos argues that it's not the soundbase form factor that's prevented it from catching on; rather, with so few TV owners...

Only 2.28 inches tall; Utilizes Sonos Trueplay acoustic tuning technology; Can be part of a Sonos multiroom audio system

No volume level indicator; Optical digital and network audio inputs only

SONOS PLAYBASE review: A serious sound solution for your entertainment needs

The SONOS PLAYBASE is a product I admittedly really wanted to get my hands on to review. So I was surprised when SONOS reached out to me asking if I'd like to take the new SONOS PLAYBASE for a spin, I didn't hesitate one bit to say yes.

Really amazing natural sound; Premium sleek design; Works nicely with mobile devices; Integrates with your TV remote

Pricey; App setup takes some time to get through

Sonos PlayBase - Incredible Sound

I am a music buff, my music is on from the time I get up until I turn the TV on in the evening. I have three Play 5 and three Play 1 speakers and just added the PlayBase, it sounds like I am in a concert venue when I'm playing music.

Sonos sound is second to none!

Replaced a 5.1 surround speaker system and receiver and I am not disappointed. Took 10 minutes to install and setup. The sound is amazing - clear, full, and spacious. Will consider adding 2 more speakers to create full surround, but may not be needed. It sounds better than I imagined.
