SilverStone Grandia GD09 Review

SilverStone Grandia GD09 Review Manufacturer: SilverStone UKprice (as reviewed): £49.99 (inc VAT) US price (as reviewed): $89.64 (ex Tax) There's some pretty neat innovation happening in the HTPC case scene at the moment.

Great value for money rack case

Wanted a silent case for audio editing and this is really good. It has 2 x USB3 sockets on the front panel, and is rack mountable - you need the RA02B rack kit for this. Only downside is it's a little lightweight and the fan it came with didn't work.

Nice case plenty of room

Nice case plenty of room. Love the filters on the sides. Find it a little strange there's holes on the top of the case but no filter mesh there. Otherwise a great case roomy inside and looks good on the tv stand.

GD09B HTPC Case

Overall a great case once you know what you are getting into and virtually silent when you select the right fans and psu; the hard drive (not an ssd) was the loudest thing in the case. I would purchase again in an instant if I needed another HTPC especially with the luxury of a full ATX motherboard.

This case will fit a full ATX motherboard; The included 120 mm fan spins at 600 rpm and is very quiet albeit the fan does not move a lot of air; There is room for 4x120 mm fans total minus one spot for the psu, so 3 total; I added one 120 mm Arctic cooling fan.

Mounting the optical drive and hard drive was difficult with a large heat sink. A large heat sink for this case for me was an Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 (non pro, 130 mm height). Larger heat sinks will not fit; i.e. Cooler Master Evo 212 or Zalman 9900 are way too tall.

Nice Case, No Exactly As Expectes

Not a terrible case, but for the price and the Manufacturer I would have expected better packaging and product quality.

Fast Shipping - Uses regular ATX Power Supply - Fits pretty much any graphics cards

- Packaging looked used (did not look brand new) - Paint is not very smooth; has a lot of drip marks which is unfortunate - *my fault, but for information* There is only ONE fan included with this case; - SSD drive mount is awful if you want to try and manage your cables

Pros

all in all the case is nice. i would definitely buy the case again for a future HTPC. i would recommend the case to friends looking to build a system for this as well.

i opened the box for the case and it was well packed; the case itself was easy to transfer my old hardware into; it stays pretty quiet with my system in it in the home theatre

wish there as some space for my H100 water cooler; the drive bay cover should be designed to clip into the optical drive tray itself to keep the nice clean look; could be a future mod for that; cable managing can be a little tough, but you can stuff a good amount of the cables into the front bezel

Good small form factor chassis

Great chassis for small builds. Make sure to keep the sides clear where you place it. Note, this isn't really made for enthusiast hardware, such as long graphics cards. Stick with shorter GPUs, such as the single-fan GTX 1050 or 1050Ti, and single-fan RX GPUs.

Great for full size ATX MB in a compact case

Recycled some parts from my son's recent computer rebuild/upgrade. Wanted smaller case for use at my church. Easy to open up and work with. Install that CPU cooler before placing MB in case, there is no access hole from behind MB once installed.
